If the price can hold up when BT Pension schemme is selling, what happens when they stop?

Alpesh Patel apparently favours VLK:-

Yahoo finance only acknowledges 1 analyst, but I presume there are others that follow VLK. That analyst does not look for much growth between 2006 & 2007

Thanks, soult.
Am still holding, but assuming a resistance level at 100p, might be tempted to take profit at that level, although cynic's strategy of having a core holding & playing with a top up seems logical in this instance.

soul traders - 23 Oct 2006 15:47 - 211 of 301

Harry, you may be right about resistance - however I will probably just be holding and hoping!

Red, I agree that there does not seem to be much growth forecast for 2007, and there are indeed very few analysts' reports to be had as far as I can see. This may all change in the near future and more coverage start coming out; I would like to wait and see how this pans out as there may be more encouraging reports on the way.

PapalPower - 23 Oct 2006 20:31 - 212 of 301

Keeping on going, 100p will be a key level to break or retrace down from perhaps, lets hope VLK can break through.

soul traders - 24 Oct 2006 11:06 - 213 of 301

Yup, yesterday's rise was very heartening and the fun hasn't stopped just yet:

VLK Bid: 93.5p Offer: 95p Change: 0.75

HARRYCAT - 24 Oct 2006 11:46 - 214 of 301

Sure. but even you must have a profit taking strategy, soult???
Nothing is forever!!! If there is a big market correction,VLK will not be immune!
Am starting to get sweaty palms!!!

soul traders - 24 Oct 2006 11:54 - 215 of 301

LOL - that's what I am trying to gauge at the moment, Harry. because I work in a bank, I am obliged to hold shares for a minimum of one month, so I cannot trade in and out as quickly as most. This makes it more sensible for me to buy and hold for the medium term; I'm looking to newsflow to give some guidance as to VLK's prospects and will review and act accordingly. My holding is too small to be worth top-slicing in any case.

soul traders - 25 Oct 2006 11:23 - 216 of 301

I could happily watch this stock rise all day long:

VLK Bid: 95p Offer: 96p Change: 0.75

HARRYCAT - 25 Oct 2006 11:59 - 217 of 301

Still holding. 100p mark will be crucial imo.

soul traders - 25 Oct 2006 14:25 - 218 of 301

And up some more . . . Looking at the chart, VLK seems to be having its biggest calendar-month rise in two years; some 30%.

VLK Bid: 96p Offer: 97p Change: 1.75

100p by the weekend? But how long can it last?

HARRYCAT - 25 Oct 2006 14:28 - 219 of 301

Steady soult - don't jinx it!
I may have asked this before so apologies if so - Do they pay a divi, if so divi date could be a good target.

soul traders - 25 Oct 2006 20:18 - 220 of 301

Harry, they paid a full-year div of 0.5p at end of June. There will be no Interim div,and in any case the amounts involved are currently so small that I don't think they'll create much of a break in any SP trend.

Decent end to the day, though:

VLK Bid: 97.5p Offer: 99p Change: 3.5

Some big trades, which I take to be purchases, hit the system towards the end of the day. Big boys muscling in . . . ?

Trade time Price (p) Volume Assumed purchase/sale* (p) Bid (p) Ask (p)
16:23 96 200000 sale 98.75 99
16:23 96.5 500000 sale 98.75 99
15:21 97 200000 sale 96.5 98

HARRYCAT - 25 Oct 2006 20:51 - 221 of 301

Apologies. I did get divi in July. It was so small that I had forgotten about it! Last time they paid an int. divi was 1998. Been so focussed on GOO today that I have not done proper research here on VLK.
The trades you mention are sells I think. Delayed trades & single protected transactions.
Nevertheless, onwards & upwards we hope!

HARRYCAT - 31 Oct 2006 12:24 - 222 of 301

Any further thoughts here soult?
Fairly heavy selling, but the sp seems stable at 94p, but still the 100p seems a resistance level. May indicate that this is now a fair valuation of the company???
Am still holding but common sense would tell me to take profit soon, particularly if the FTSE starts to slide.

cynic - 31 Oct 2006 12:27 - 223 of 301

FTSE is technically (chart) still strongly up-bound

HARRYCAT - 31 Oct 2006 12:35 - 224 of 301

To what level?

soul traders - 31 Oct 2006 13:15 - 225 of 301

Harry, it's probably a good idea to listen to your common sense, although I think there may still be some headroom for VLK, especially if it gets promoted to the All-Share.

I, however, took a decision to cut and run on Friday, so I sold all my VLK at an 18% profit and spent the proceeds on SOLA at 196.55p. Which, as you can tell, I am so far not regretting in the slightest.

I would have preferred to sell something else and keep VLK, but have had to restructure a fair bit of my portfolio in the last couple of weeks and it just wasn't possible to do everything at once.

Good luck to those still holding.

soul traders - 31 Oct 2006 13:21 - 226 of 301

PS - I'm not sure if it's yet fair to refer to 100p as a resistance level. VLK enjoyed a very strong run in the previous month and has only had one peak at 99p so far. The small drop back after a nice run up fits with the pattern of trading for the year to date.

Don't take my word for it, as I'm not a chartist, but I'd still be inclined to think there may be more to come unless a stronger downtrend begins to set in.

IMO, DYOR, etc.

HARRYCAT - 31 Oct 2006 13:24 - 227 of 301

Can't believe you jumped ship!!!
Am now hyperventilating into a brown paper bag & considering my options.

soul traders - 31 Oct 2006 13:31 - 228 of 301

Harry, Don't panic - (I'm sure you're only kidding anyway!) - as I said, I would rather have sold something else but was a bit stuck for liquid assets and simply made the best call I could under the circumstances. VLK could well be over a quid by mid-Nov.

And please don't take too much notice of what I say or do, as I have made just as many hideous investment mistakes as everyone else (but I don't admit to all of them on here :o) !!)

Here's a consolation prize: keep an eye on SUB. (Shares gave it a mention last week).
