Business Financial Newswire
"Victoria Oil & Gas reported a pre-tax loss of $42.4m for the year to May against a previous $1.2m. Revenue reported for the year was nil, against a previous 1.7m.
The result included a $35.5m impairment charge against the carrying value of the Kemerkol, Kazakhstan, asset.
The company said, 'We continue to fight our corner in the Kazakhstan legal system on this project, but its importance in the day to day business of Victoria has been minimised. We will also seek solutions within economic and legal limits.'
The company raised more than $28m in new equity following the year end and acquired an interest in the Logbaba project in Cameroon.
Chairman Kevin Foo said the Logbaba project was expected to provide material cash flow in 2010. This cash would also help to unlock the potential of Victoria's large West Medvezhye project in Russia.
Spudding of the first appraisal well at Logbaba took place in August with intersection of 90 feet of gross sandstone pay.
The company also completed a first seismic study around Well 103 at West Medvezhye and received confirmation by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russian category C3 recoverable resources of 170m barrels of oil equivalent for just three structures in the licence block. "

Victoria Oil & Gas says Logbaba project in Cameroon on schedule
company news image
Victoria Oil & Gas PLC (AIM: VOG) said work on the Logbaba natural gas and condensate project in Cameroon is on schedule and it believes it could be preparing its next well at West Medvezhye gas field in Russia by the end of 2010.
The comments came as it reported results for the year ended May 31 2009, which showed a pretax loss of US$42.36 million, compared with a loss of US$1.7 million. It decided to book an asset impairment of US$35.5 on the Kemerkol oil project in Kazakhstan where it is currently embroiled in a court case over a legal challenge to Victorias ownership.
We continue to fight our corner in the Kazakhstan legal system on this project, but its importance in the day to day business of Victoria has been minimised. We will also seek solutions within economic and legal limits, the company said.
At its flagship project Logbaba, activities on the gas processing plant, production facilities and pipeline continue on schedule. The detailed engineering will incorporate the data from the new wells and VOG is targeting first deliveries in mid-2010.
The proven and probable reserves for Logbaba are currently estimated at 106 billion cubic feet. GeoDynamics Research (GDR) is currently commencing a passive seismic spectroscopy survey over the entire license area, which will take measurements of 50 locations around the field to identify hydrocarbon bearing areas. Initial findings of the survey are expected by mid-January 2010.
Earlier this month, VOG reported that the La-105 well at the project encountered around 90 feet of gross sandstone pay at depths between 6,030 and 6,120 feet. VOG said the intersected gas bearing zones, which were anticipated by the well prognosis, had good porosity and permeability and that the horizon appeared to correlate to sand that was also penetrated by well La-103, drilled by Elf in the 1950s. The single zone in the La-103 flowed at 4.5 million cubic feet of gas, or about 800 barrels of oil equivalent.
At West Medvezhye, VOG plans a second passive seismic spectroscopy study over a large area of the northern and eastern section of the licence block in the new year. Studies suggest show that this section includes an extension of the super-giant Medvezhye field and VOG believes it stands the best chance of finding stratigraphic traps with superior reservoir quality there.
The company is also mulling to perform a geochemical survey over the same area this year before conditions become too severe. With these two technologies, we would gain a better understanding of the hydrocarbon potential of the target area without the immediate need to acquire a very expensive conventional seismic survey. If all goes according to expectation, we could be preparing our next well at West Medvezhye by the end of 2010, it said.
VOGs option for the acquisition of Falcon Petroleum Ltd, a private company with 50 percent of a production sharing agreement in Mali and 90 percent of a PSA for three very prospective blocks in Ethiopia, expired recently. It is currently negotiating an extension of this option.
Our ambition remains to grow Victoria organically and through acquisition into a major E&P company and as we develop the Logbaba and West Med projects, we will continue to seek out new, exciting opportunities to add further value, the group added

Victoria Oil & Gas raises 6 million for Logbaba gas project, first sales expected in mid-2010
company news image
Africa and FSU operating oil and gas junior Victoria Oil & Gas (AIM: VOG) said today it had raised 6 million through a placing of 141,327,058 ordinary shares at 4.25p each through its broker Fox Davies Capital, raising more funds for its core Logbaba gas project in Cameroon.
The London-based energy producer is aiming to bring forward revenue generation from Logbaba by advancing the design and engineering of the downstream and marketing phase.
First gas sales to industrial customers are still anticipated in mid-2010 upon the completion drilling, installation of gas processing plant and Victorias own 15 kilometre gas pipeline.
Victoria decided to play it safe and protecting shareholders on the downside by rising funds through placement now instead of turning to its 10 million debt facility with Yorkville Advisors, where about 6.5 million remains outstanding.
Fox Davies reaffirmed its price target of 7p for the companys shares, while retaining a Buy recommendation.
Shares in Victoria Oil & Gas slid 4% to 6.05p on the news tod
