I have now seen a copy of a letter sent out by Professor Norman C Nevin GTAC Chairman, warning of concerns over the safety of some lentiviral gene therapy vectors. This states that reports have been received of the development of liver tumours in a pre-clinical study using lentiviral vectors. Most of the tumours occurred in a group of mice that had been treated in utero with a vector carrying the factor IX gene, although a small number of tumours were also observed in animals that had been treated neonatally or had received vectors carrying only marker genes.
The letter states that the number of mice involved is small and the wider implications are not yet clear. It also says that these observations do not appear to affect any current or previous UK trials so I have no idea how this affects OXB.

I never usually post a response from an email but this time I will make an exception. I just received this a few seconds ago. I hope Alan Kingsman does not mind:
Dear Martin
Andrew Wood passed your e-mail to me. We have been aware of the information in the GTAC letter for some time. Let me reassure you that the vectors used in the study were not those that we use in the clinical products and in a vast range of animal experiments conducted over many months for our various products we have never seen a single adverse event caused by the vectors let alone any tumour induction.
Yours
Alan Kingsman

Rumours persist from the other place. Might be best to sit on the sidelines until resolved one way or the other - could be a bumpy ride short term. Medium-long term it's a quality company with some great technologies.

I spoke to Alan Kingsman by phone and got the same information as Martin. Not only did he confirm the email response above, but mentioned that the "Academic Group" that ran into a problem with its mice were trying to do something quite different and were, in effect, using "problematic mice" to start with
My take on my conversation with Alan Kingsman yesterday, in clarifying the scope of the GTAC notice (see MJC email above also) was that he sounded supremely confident - imo

Looking at the one year graph above, is there any analysts out there who can explain this one. As this is a high risk stock, is this why no pattern has emerged.
