Tesco (TSCO)

dai oldenrich - 01 May 2007 16:26

Tesco is one of the worlds leading international retailers. Since the company first the trading name of Tesco, in the mid 1920s, the group has expanded into different formats, different markets and different sectors. The UKs leading retailer Tesco was floated on the stock exchange in 1947 and in 1995 took over rival Sainsburys position as the UK number one. The principal activity of the group is food retailing, with over 2,000 stores worldwide. Tesco has a long term strategy for growth, based on four key parts: growth in the Core UK business, to expand by growing internationally, to be as strong in non-food as in food and to follow customers into new retailing services. The company launched a home shopping service in 2000, allowing customers to order their shopping online. Tesco is now expanding its convenience stores and overseas into areas such as Taiwan, Malaysia, Poland, the US and Ireland.

lets see what happens this coming week. i would really like to buy this in 405/410sh area
but having already bought in 430sh area will be unable to do so.i just cannot and will not average down. so i need a strategy. sell a proportion higher and reinstate lower is one posibilty, just sell out at cost/ small loss is another very serious possibilty, after all it didnt follow thro as i had anticipated and expected. or just sit tight through my original plan?
i think i shall sit tight.could be wrong. that price movement nov thro feb looks like accumulation to me. we'll see in due course.as always just my opinion and please always dyor

See it as a buying oppurtunity Club, I don`t know why the price is being supressed.

Down again. Can't understand this as when I went to my local Tesco Saturday I could not even get a parking place for the DB9 considered going next door to Asda but did not have a minder to watch the motor from those council house types.

Interim Management Statement.

Chief Executive, Terry Leahy commented:

"Tesco has made a solid start to the new financial year. We're making good progress with our strategy: investing in the shopping trip for customers; driving strong productivity gains; growing space and winning market share. The long-term global recovery is well underway although the pace and strength of economic recovery varies across our markets. We're in good shape and well-positioned to deliver further growth as the economic environment continues to improve."

GROUP SALES

Group sales for the thirteen weeks ending 30 May 2010 increased by 8.2% driven by all parts of our strategy. Growth excluding petrol was 6.9%.

i'm still holding but only only because i sold half higher albeit at a loss.price may recover, or it may not. my stop loss is still sitting there just waiting to be hit.had it happened today i wouldnt have been surprised, as it is it hasnt Yet.

HARRYCAT - 21 Jun 2010 16:47 - 41 of 1721

There seem to be quite a few negative news items which may be affecting short term confidence on TSCO, particularly the floatation of Ocado & the pay revolt by investors.
The board changes would also worry the institutional investors, imo, as they will wait to see if the direction from the top remains as strong as when Terry Leahy was in charge.
Brokers seem to be reasonably upbeat though, with price targets around the 500p level.

Reuters:
"The retailer could face a revolt over executive pay after investor lobby groups urged shareholders to vote against the company's remuneration report at its July 2 annual meeting."

"The group says it has moved to implement its long-term succession plan, with Philip Clarke succeeding Leahy and a number of other board changes."

"The supermarket Tesco (TSCO.L) has discontinued its 1.6 million pound libel claim against the Thai intellectual and Bangkok Business News columnist Kamol Kamoltrakul, who had previously criticised the undercutting of smaller local businesses in the country by Tesco's subsidiary Tesco Lotus."

"Online grocery delivery company Ocado is expected to announce its intention to float on the stock market next week."
