Market seems impressed.

Puzzles me how the worst pizza I have ever tasted continues to do well. Maybe it's those topless delivery girls.

cynic - 12 Jul 2010 10:11 - 247 of 841

because it has few competitors in this country ...... pizza express arguably makes a better product, but they do not do home delivery, and it is that that gives DOM an edge in its niche field

skinny - 12 Jul 2010 10:18 - 248 of 841

I'm out of these (for now) @403 - maybe due a fall after the World Cup?

moneyplus - 12 Jul 2010 12:36 - 249 of 841

If you like this one take a look at their international franchise GBR. It's early days and not cynics cup of tea etc. but the world cup sales should give it a boost--one to tuck away.

Amazing share.

cynic - 07 Sep 2010 16:06 - 252 of 841

i'm told the product's not great, but the coverage and company control of its franchises sure takes the biscuit (or the pie crust as the case may be)

skinny - 07 Sep 2010 16:08 - 253 of 841

Just had a small short @465.65

HARRYCAT - 07 Sep 2010 16:41 - 254 of 841

I wonder if the huge increase in the wheat price is going to affect DOM's next set of figures?

cynic - 07 Sep 2010 17:59 - 255 of 841

good thinking batman, though it is possible that they buy forward quite a lot of basics

mitzy - 08 Sep 2010 13:55 - 256 of 841

The price of mozerella cheese has risen in the last 12 months.

HARRYCAT - 08 Sep 2010 14:01 - 257 of 841

So has the price of olives, pineapple, ham & sweetcorn, but the wheat based base represents 70% of a pizza's makeup! I think the only thing which has dropped in price is the cost of cardboard, so at least the box represents good value!

Reporting next week.
From Digitallook:
"Shares in pizza delivery firm Dominos Pizza have proved as popular with investors as the companys pizzas have with couch potatoes. The shares are up by two-thirds over the last year as the company has kept up its frenetic growth rate though the recent sale of 2m shares at 470p a time by director Nigel Wray may suggest that even the directors have been surprised by the companys strength throughout the recession."

Interim Management Statement.

The Company has continued to show strong growth during the period with like-for-like sales in 553 mature stores increasing by 9.9% (2009: 10.8% in 501 mature stores). Like-for-like sales for the year have risen by an impressive 12.5% (2009: 8.3%). This growth is particularly pleasing as it comes against tough comparatives from last year and the extremely successful Two for Tuesday promotion, which began at the start of the third quarter in 2009.

Next year these should be 1000p each.

Domino's Pizza UK & IRL announced today that system sales for the quarter to 26th December increased by 17.8% to 132.5m (2009: 112.4m). Like-for-like sales in its 553 mature stores grew by 10.3% for the period.

The Company has continued its strong expansion plans during the year and opened a record 57 new stores (2009: 55), including the first Domino's stores on the Isle of Man and the Isle of Wight. No stores were closed during the year, bringing the total number of stores in the system at the year end to 665 (2009: 608).

Domino's said it has continued to see excellent growth in e-commerce sales during the year, supported by the introduction of an iPhone ordering app and increased activity in the social media arena. With the impending launch of an ordering app for android phones, these figures are expected to continue to rise.

The Company continues its policy of returning cash, which is not required in the business, to shareholders in the form of share buybacks and dividends. The total amount returned to shareholders during the year was 18.3m (2009: 18.1m). The Company acquired and subsequently cancelled 1.2m shares at a cost of 4.7m and a further 13.6m was paid out in dividends.
