Worth a sector watch I think.
Hutchison Whampoa is in early talks to buy O2, the Sunday Times reported. Since BT started the process to buy EE, UK telecoms operators have been seeking to form alliances. "Everyone is talking to everyone," an industry insider told the paper.

hmmmmmm interesting Shortie.
As long as they are cash deals.
Cant stand these special divis and share swaps.
MMs just take the pith and mark the SP down after a divi play.

Here's the FT link GF, I tend to stay away from telecoms with bets but some of you guys might be holding equity. Vodafone is all I have..

Opec is dead: The oil war could crown America as the global swing producer

Yet another good article, its makes me wonder just how many of the smaller off-shore producers are an easy short. As you know off-shore production costs the most and these guys get priced out the market first.

Yep and the shale miners. Got to be careful though shorting in this sector. Just an annoucement from opec and we could be fecked.

Maybe I'll look for strong support then and place long bets waiting for OPEC to cut production!!

the report of OPEC's imminent demise is more than a little fanciful

I think it was trying more to suggest that the once powerful cartel has fallen from grace...

OPEC certainly has challenges, but nevertheless the major producers therein still have an awful lot of clout and massive reserves
this shale stuff is all very well, but it's expensive to produce for all sorts of reasons
nevertheless, OPEC (Saudi) is clearly intent on giving the ami producers a very considerable bloody nose, and is currently most successful in doing so

regardless of which party wins the most seats at the election, take it that we'll have a wishy-washy hung parliament with widow twanky as pm, so what sector(s) are most likely to benefit?
imo, best bets must be lower-range housebuilders and infrastructure construction companies?
i don't fancy backing any in the financial sector, as i think that remains an augean stable
supermarkets look to have too much pressure on their margins for comfort
drug and electronics? ..... maybe, but in small doses
clever choice of oilies - perhaps BP even - may give rich pickings too
meanwhile, the stock indices are likely to remain very volatile so with care and caution, money to be made on both dow and ftse in both directions - skinny and shortie will probably be buying yachts with their quality plays :-)
anyone else fancy a prediction?

I haven't played the FTSE since last week as it became even more irrational (to me).
Here's the only
yacht that I'll be buying - but where an I going to find a wooden pond!
