Here's the FT link GF, I tend to stay away from telecoms with bets but some of you guys might be holding equity. Vodafone is all I have..

Opec is dead: The oil war could crown America as the global swing producer

http://www.cityam.com/207355/opec-dead-oil-war-could-crown-america-global-swing-producer

Yet another good article, its makes me wonder just how many of the smaller off-shore producers are an easy short. As you know off-shore production costs the most and these guys get priced out the market first.

goldfinger - 19 Jan 2015 10:44 - 2615 of 2763

Yep and the shale miners. Got to be careful though shorting in this sector. Just an annoucement from opec and we could be fecked.

Shortie - 19 Jan 2015 10:50 - 2616 of 2763

Maybe I'll look for strong support then and place long bets waiting for OPEC to cut production!!

aldwickk - 19 Jan 2015 11:03 - 2617 of 2763

ITV moving up today, maybe its all the telecom action

cynic - 19 Jan 2015 11:11 - 2618 of 2763

the report of OPEC's imminent demise is more than a little fanciful

Shortie - 19 Jan 2015 11:18 - 2619 of 2763

I think it was trying more to suggest that the once powerful cartel has fallen from grace...

cynic - 19 Jan 2015 11:24 - 2620 of 2763

OPEC certainly has challenges, but nevertheless the major producers therein still have an awful lot of clout and massive reserves

this shale stuff is all very well, but it's expensive to produce for all sorts of reasons
nevertheless, OPEC (Saudi) is clearly intent on giving the ami producers a very considerable bloody nose, and is currently most successful in doing so

goldfinger - 19 Jan 2015 17:13 - 2621 of 2763

Yep but when it all settles down theres going to be one hell of a bull market.

cynic - 19 Jan 2015 17:21 - 2622 of 2763

regardless of which party wins the most seats at the election, take it that we'll have a wishy-washy hung parliament with widow twanky as pm, so what sector(s) are most likely to benefit?

imo, best bets must be lower-range housebuilders and infrastructure construction companies?

i don't fancy backing any in the financial sector, as i think that remains an augean stable
supermarkets look to have too much pressure on their margins for comfort
drug and electronics? ..... maybe, but in small doses
clever choice of oilies - perhaps BP even - may give rich pickings too

meanwhile, the stock indices are likely to remain very volatile so with care and caution, money to be made on both dow and ftse in both directions - skinny and shortie will probably be buying yachts with their quality plays :-)

anyone else fancy a prediction?

goldfinger - 19 Jan 2015 17:30 - 2623 of 2763

Food producers.

skinny - 19 Jan 2015 17:30 - 2624 of 2763

I haven't played the FTSE since last week as it became even more irrational (to me).

Here's the only yacht that I'll be buying - but where an I going to find a wooden pond!

Stan - 19 Jan 2015 17:34 - 2625 of 2763

"anyone else fancy a prediction?"... What on here you must be joking -):

Gold worth still keeping an eye on though.

goldfinger - 19 Jan 2015 21:26 - 2626 of 2763

Arrrrrrrrr Stan a canny fellow.

goldfinger - 20 Jan 2015 12:58 - 2627 of 2763

Hope some of you got on the last lot ive posted up. Going like the clappers even RBS.

aldwickk - 20 Jan 2015 14:00 - 2628 of 2763

ITV having a good run this week , will it end the day at 230 ?

cynic - 20 Jan 2015 14:01 - 2629 of 2763

i'm afraid i didn't follow any of sticky's latest leads ..... nice to see that he's on a good run though

however, i do hold some ITV and good to see them gently heading north

Fred1new - 20 Jan 2015 14:15 - 2630 of 2763

Manuel,

Check the projections.

I got out of the party.
