Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

Thinking out loud as you do.....if Sealion is considered to be the biggest fan...does that mean the other wells to be drilled could be dusters....only time will tell.,.

anyone care to comment.... I think that on Monday morning 0800 the SP will open ~10p up and climb to 450p a share until approx 0815-0830 when the profit takers will swoop in and SP will drop to opening levels or under before then climbing again to test new highs later in the morning.

i realise this is crystal ball territory but hopefully after the w/end press pick up on this and the glut of buyers on the L2 hopefully still wanting in then this may play out.

Alex

i currently hold and plan to do so for some time to come.

Nice to Panmure agree with me that Sea Lion at 242 million recoverable barrels is worth over 700p a share.

And if of course this should over time get upgraded to 300M then 400M then 500M as more work is done then that valuation keeps moving up to say 15 pounds for this single Sea Lion area :)

.......... We believe that reserves in the Falklands Islands are worth approximately $10 per barrel and, as such, this field could be worth $2.4bn to the company which is worth more than 750p per share, said Panmure Gordon.............

Comments in the media all over the place, going to be a busy weekend and next week with lots of new broker notes and updates and media coverage.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/marketforceslive/2010/sep/17/rockhopper-falklands-economic-worries

..........Rockhopper Exploration, one of a number of operators controversially looking for oil in the Falklands, jumped 87p to 420p as it announced a successful test at its Sea Lion 1 well and said it believed the discovery would be commercially viable.

The company said the test produced sustained oil flow of more than 2,000 barrels a day, over an 18 hour period. Oil specialist Finlay Thomson at Canaccord Genuity said:

Very good news from Rockhopper as the Sea Lion well has successfully flowed oil. The flow-test was restricted by the testing equipment available on the rig, with the group saying that with the right equipment they would expect to flow at significantly higher rates. Whilst this is not actually quantified (given that the group probably needs to spend time interrogating all the data from the test), I'd take this as meaning in excess of 5,000 barrels a day. The next likely news from Rockhopper will be its involvement in the Rachel well which should spud after Sea Lion. Continue buying Rockhopper - today's news is another big tick in the box towards commercialisation.............

Spot on Robbiealexander......not bad guesswork.....it should be something like that.....the sp could be around the 500p mark by the end of next week possibly......so many positives for RKH now....DES not so sure, but the market has priced that up as well......heavens forbid but the sp will plummet if the next well comes up dry...or noncommercial...

HARRYCAT - 18 Sep 2010 08:35 - 2633 of 6294

At some point when we all sell our main RKH holding, CGT is going to be a big consideration. Am trying to maximise my allowance each year, but some of you guys must be looking at a very large bill from HMRC? Shame that none of these FI stocks are ISA'able.

cynic - 18 Sep 2010 08:54 - 2634 of 6294

the one advantage, if you can call it that, of having been almost wiped in the dotcom bust, is that i have large c/f losses!

HARRYCAT - 18 Sep 2010 09:09 - 2635 of 6294

Cor, that must have been a biggie to still be running now!

Proselenes - 18 Sep 2010 09:23 - 2636 of 6294

Harry, you only pay CGT if you sell it, you can keep the position running for as long as you want and pay no CGT on the paper profits.

So people with sense will strategically sell RKH little by little as and when they have other losses to offset.

Once they selll and offset against other losses they can then, all being well, buy back into RKH into an ISA once it moves off of AIM and on to the main market.
