Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

Cor, that must have been a biggie to still be running now!

Proselenes - 18 Sep 2010 09:23 - 2636 of 6294

Harry, you only pay CGT if you sell it, you can keep the position running for as long as you want and pay no CGT on the paper profits.

So people with sense will strategically sell RKH little by little as and when they have other losses to offset.

Once they selll and offset against other losses they can then, all being well, buy back into RKH into an ISA once it moves off of AIM and on to the main market.

HARRYCAT - 18 Sep 2010 09:55 - 2637 of 6294

Hence my point. You, Marky and others will be slowly selling so as to minimise CGT (people with sense) otherwise you will take it all in one hit (as you haven't admitted to heavy losses elsewhere!).

cynic - 18 Sep 2010 09:56 - 2638 of 6294

oh i've managed to rack up some losses since then too!
anyway, you only pay tax on the profit element, though s/b does not carry that penalty at all, unless the rules have changed .... at some point, may switch some trading back to that

meanwhile, it does no harm to hold both RKH and DES ..... i'ld be pretty chary of ARG and FOGL

Harry, an alternate way out is to keep holding your RKH and get yourself qualified as non-dom.

Sell your house, move the majority of your activities as well as yourself offshore and then, once non-dom status is given, you can sell your RKH.

Given the potential gains and the potential CGT bill for some, it might be worth pursuing for a few people..................

HARRYCAT - 18 Sep 2010 10:06 - 2641 of 6294

Ah, hadn't thought of that! Not yet able to buy myself a little island somewhere!

cynic - 18 Sep 2010 10:39 - 2642 of 6294

and then try opening a bank a/c in a tax haven - avoid BVI!!!

So what's going happen to SP Monday and by end of week?

Proselenes - 18 Sep 2010 12:53 - 2644 of 6294

The CNBC video link.

Comments on RKH start about 3:30 into the video.

He says it could double on a successful flow test (this was Friday morning)............. and so we have the flow test success in the afternoon ;)

Should be a strong week next week and many strong months to come..........

What does anyone think is the potential "surprise" here, given that there could be one.

I think there is something significant in :

Plans for 45 days well testing (including moving) and 30 days of actual test period.

Suddenly its all over well within the timescale.

So what's the surprise ?

I will stick my neck out and take the lead from the comment from Pierre Jungels saying that they believe Sea Lion is the biggest fan in the North Falklands Basin.

I think it means the lower fan is in fact what was referred to as the Chatham prospect separately and is far bigger than first thought and part of Sea Lion. I think something has happened and they have realized that Sea Lion is much much bigger than first thought.

Perhaps the AGM will let the details slip out ? Is Sea Lion going to be over 500 million barrels recoverable ? Is it a "world class" discovery.

Going to be exciting times ahead anyway, and I think there is a fair chance of a surprise coming our way. Certainly the quickly finished flow test and the comments in the RNS from Pierre suggest something quite major is potentially coming our way !

why even have an rns now n isnt ot rare to have results early

cynic - 18 Sep 2010 15:58 - 2647 of 6294

i won't even hazard a guess at what might or might not be, but for sure it is very good news indeed that the flowtest result appeared after only 10/12 days which is 2+ weeks early; around 5th october was result forecast date

First time I have looked at this and guys if you have been in from before the rise very well done. I shall raise a glass of wine to you all.

Cheers

Very well done to all in RKH-I sold at 1.75 after she dropped down to 62 afew weeks back. regret it now but at the time I sold she fell further to 62. I suppose I lost my bottle. Still holding huge chunks of AMEr and hoping that we will see the jackpot there.

markymar - 19 Sep 2010 19:31 - 2650 of 6294

I have been shouting out loud that Sea Lion is very large and a lot bigger than the 242 mill bb he is what marlonthemonkey said.....whatch this space...i think we will hear how large very soon and before the AGM on the 30th

Sealion fans are in communication AND they extend south into the "un-seismiced zone"

Sealion is the largest sandstone fan in the NENFB and is P1 is greater than 2.5 billion barrels. P50 will be upgraded to 800mmbs.

cynic - 19 Sep 2010 19:55 - 2651 of 6294

who is this geezer marky that seems to know so much - or at least you believe him, which is a reasonable start

zz1974 - 19 Sep 2010 20:35 - 2652 of 6294

markymar where did you get 800mmbs quote from???

avsec - 19 Sep 2010 21:15 - 2653 of 6294

I for one believe Marky has done his homework

but Marky DPP

markymar - 19 Sep 2010 22:11 - 2654 of 6294

I have had my own thoughts on what the possible size maybe of SL and after reading up on what marlonthemonkey says on iii and he knows what he is talking about it makes total sence

This will be why they are getting extra seismec!!!! i guess we will know soon enough if i am right or wrong.
