Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

marky how much and why? Sentiment turned negative for FI shares atm,we need DES to strike or further to fall.

cynic - 28 Sep 2010 13:03 - 2929 of 6294

true, but RKH will be much the least affected downwards

greekman - 28 Sep 2010 14:05 - 2930 of 6294

Anyone else expecting by close of play or within the allowed 48 hrs that an RNS re an institutional buy or two comes in?
No doubt they won't have panicked like the many PI's that have.

Time Traveller - 28 Sep 2010 14:30 - 2931 of 6294

Have heard from a fellow investor that there are rumours of a placing at 450p.
Anyone else heard the rumour or is this something that has grown legs on the iii or advfn bbs?

cynic - 28 Sep 2010 14:31 - 2932 of 6294

it is the sort of level one might expect and not too high a discount which is good

greekman - 28 Sep 2010 15:44 - 2933 of 6294

Hi TT,

That rumor was doing the rounds on iii yesterday. I agree though, it does look about right for a placing, but if it was fact I would have thought we would have heard firm news by now. But with our level playing field/100% straight markets, who knows!

Bounce?

Just spotted this quote and comment from a book review of, 'Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds by Charles Mackay'.

Quote.....''A person is intelligent, people are stupid."
Reviewers comment...."Whoever once said that must have been referring to stock market manias".

No doubt most 'individuals' thought today movement of the sp was ridiculous, but as crowd sentiment!
So it's very apt for todays investor movement in RKH.

as is equally often said, hindsight is foolproof! ..... for myself, i'm very glad i bit the bullet at 465 this morning, though the result of the sale was "no blood"; sp could easily have continued to plunge, though it happens that it did not ..... indeed, i bought a few back at 461 which makes the position pretty o'weight once more, but i may well trade these

HARRYCAT - 28 Sep 2010 16:26 - 2937 of 6294

Not sure I agree with your post #2933 greekman. We only found out about the recent DES equity issue on the day it happened. There was no hint of it from the press or on the bb's in advance. I wouldn't be surprised if RHK just announce that a placing has been successful.

Go on go on go on..!

Got things right today on this 450p plus an upsurge back to 500p or nearabouts....well 480p....

cynic - 28 Sep 2010 16:46 - 2940 of 6294

but did you buy at 450 or just talk/think about it?

greekman - 28 Sep 2010 16:48 - 2941 of 6294

Harrycat,

Could be right. But I look at the markets as having more leaks than a sieve.
For example, the FSA are looking into the last 12 months of mergers and acquisitions, as there were unusual trade movements in almost 50% of these prior to general news release. That is a massive number.

required field - 28 Sep 2010 16:51 - 2942 of 6294

No.....just before closing last night...came in 475...going long....thought it might drop to 450p.....wished I'd waited.....just my guessing was right.... not my investing....if it carries on up tomorrow...I'll be pleased....

cynic - 28 Sep 2010 16:58 - 2943 of 6294

guessing is easy - there's never any pain attaching!

chav - 28 Sep 2010 19:23 - 2944 of 6294

Like a virtual portfollio...no emotion or real money to lose and the decisions are easy.

hangon - 28 Sep 2010 20:46 - 2945 of 6294

Greekman - perhaps FSA could save some time. As I suspect they'd be better looking for deals that are entirely without inside knowledge.

"insider"......what exactly does it cover? It would be easy enough if it applied to Directors/execs/employees working in a Co that is about to do a deal (or whose Results are out soon). But what of their partners/spouces/friends etc.

I believe it is easy to spot by looking at deals larger than (Say10k) within 7-days of a sp rising more than 20%, 20k within 5-days and . . . . .

But what do others think?

cynic - 28 Sep 2010 21:02 - 2946 of 6294

10k????????????
haven't you omitted at least one 0??????????

10k is serious peanuts, if that isn't too bad an oxymoron
