Recent news...

Rotork beat expectations with a 34 percent rise in 2008 profit and said it was confident for 2009 thanks to a strong order book and the prospect of infrastructure spending, sending its shares soaring. The company, which makes valve control systems for the oil, gas and water industries, said it ended the year with a record order book of 162 million pounds ($228.6 million), an increase of 66 percent since the start of 2008. Chief Executive Peter France told Reuters he sees lots of positive signs for Rotork in 2009 and beyond, including more infrastructure spending, the need for new and upgraded power stations and government stimulus packages. "A lot of the oil majors are talking about having 2009 capex plans at least the same as 2008, which would be very positive for us," he added. Later today, Britain is set to unveil a financial support package of up to 2 billion pounds to kickstart projects that have been put on hold because of the credit crisis. Shares in Rotork jumped 12 percent to 768 pence at 0922 GMT, making the company the top FTSE 250 riser. Numis upgraded its recommendation for Rotork to 'Buy' from 'Add' following the results and increased its forecasts for 2009 and 2010 by 5 percent. "We expect it to maintain good growth in the current year and believe its major end markets will prove more resilient than most in the current climate," Numis analysts wrote in a note. France also expects Rotork, which operates in 30 countries and has 14 manufacturing plants across the world, to continue to benefit from the weak pound and take market share. "Most of our competitors are euro or dollar-based, so we are in a very competitive position against those." Jeffries analyst John Dean said Rotork had been winning market share in the United States and Europe even at unfavourable foreign exchange movements. "The weakening pound will only have strengthened this position further," he said. Rotork posted full-year adjusted pretax profit of 76.9 million pounds boosted by the weak pound and strong order growth, on sales up 36 percent at 320 million pounds. Analysts were expecting adjusted pretax profit of 74 million pounds, up from 57.3 million in 2007, according to a consensus of 14 analysts provided by the company. The current consensus forecast for 2009 is for adjusted preatx profit of 79.5 million pounds on sales of 329.1 million, according to data provided by the company.

good call digit, but it is of some concern that this share shows violent movement on minuscule volume, implying no liquidity at all .... shall have a look at their web site to see what that reveals as not even sure what these guys do

goldfinger - 13 Mar 2009 08:55 - 5 of 45

valves.

cynic - 13 Mar 2009 09:26 - 6 of 45

found out that bit quickly enough ...... not sure i care for engineering stocks much, though if one is trading a trend, it is somewhat academic ..... shall have a look for liquidity and average trading volumes etc

TLW looking quite tasty again .... very bravely topped up a couple of slices while sp tumbled, but all now looking pretty good

goldfinger - 13 Mar 2009 09:43 - 7 of 45

Cyners, TLW should really bomb if Opec cut production targets on Sunday.

By the way ROR supply valves to the oil Industry.

cynic - 13 Mar 2009 09:48 - 8 of 45

i assume by bomb you mean explode upwards, and not in the usual meaning of collapsing in a heap of rubble!

goldfinger - 13 Mar 2009 10:11 - 9 of 45

HARRYCAT - 09 Aug 2010 11:37 - 21 of 45

Met a guy the other day who has recently joined this company as a welder in their trailer division in Suffolk. Not one I have been watching, but seems to have picked up recently. Div yield is fair at 2.3% but most brokers seem to be neutral at the moment on this stock.

HARRYCAT - 18 May 2011 08:30 - 22 of 45

21st April 2011
StockMarketWire.com
Actuator manufacturer Rotork plc reported a record order intake for the first quarter, up 18% on last year to 108m.

In its interim management statement for the period since January 1, the group said its order book now stood at 153m, 10% higher than at the year end.

The pneumatic and hydraulic actuator division saw the greatest increase in order intake, 29% up on the first quarter of last year.

However, group shipments were slightly down on 2010 due to the timing of delivery requests by customers. A stronger second-half performance was expecterd as these projects were delivered.

Rotork said it expected first-half results to show margins slightly lower than before, reflecting continued investment in the business and higher raw material costs.

In Rotork Fluid Systems, margins in the first half would show a reduction, although this was expected to reverse in the second half. Management remained focused on mitigating the effect of higher raw material costs through sourcing initiatives.

Overall margins for the full year were expected to be similar to the previous year's.

The market in Japan had started to return and the group was supporting customers in repairing and replacing damaged equipment.

A number of nuclear power projects had been delayed while governments assessed the risks but Rotork expected investment to return in the medium to long term with increased maintenance activity in the short term.

The group said it continued to be highly cash generative and maintained a strong balance sheet. Cash balances at the end of the quarter were 104m.

Acquisition on April 8 of Rotork Servo Controls Mexicowould allow it to develop its sales channels in Mexico and invest in its service solution.
