Business ExchangeBuzz up!DiggPrint Email .Ireland is considering a 1.4 billion euros ($1.9 billion) capital injection into Bank of Ireland Plc before the Feb. 25 national poll, the Sunday Business Post said.

The government and Bank of Ireland are in talks about the move through non-voting shares, which would convert to ordinary shares if the bank is unable to repay the money or fails to attract private investors by a deadline yet to be set, the newspaper said, without saying where it got the information.

easy dough tomorrow here - gla

'It will represent a major loss of face to the other side of the Memorandum of Understanding if the government needs inject ~1.3bn (2.199bn less 0.7bn debt-swap profit in Dec 2010, 0.057bn for BIAM and up to 0.168bn from the Canadian debt-swap announced last week (though that initiative seems to have been scotched according to this Bloomberg article the lender will postpone a plan to offer to convert some of its subordinated bonds into shares until after the central banks capital and liquidity reviews)) via non-voting shares because these are not equity shares equity shares mean full capital risk and full voting rig'

any views on how this bank will go. ie will it need more govt/eu handouts or can they raise it themselves? will the SP tank on resumption of trading or was the news last night considered en par with what was expected? any thoughts.

i am currently holding and bought them with a long term view to return to profit ala Lloyds/RBS and just hope they dont turn out to be a NRK

I THINK IT WILL BE A LONG WAIT, I AM OUT.

robertalexander - 11 Jun 2011 21:47 - 10 of 14

if you hold at an average SP of <20 cents, do you think its worth taking up the RI ? [or at least selling a %age to buy the rest?]

I am at break even. With all banks on a roll at the moment I will hold on hoping for 40 cents or so. This could retrace to 10 or thereabouts as nothing goes up in a straight line.
Just a gamble on a uptrend.

robertalexander - 06 Feb 2012 12:11 - 13 of 14

took some gains at 14.4C this morning looks like it might have been a good call. i was a tad overweight in them so happy leave the balance to run. if they drop back to 10C then may top up again.
