Shares in Latin America-focused oil and gas group GeoPark (LON:GPK) rose after it revealed an update on discoveries in its recently-acquired properties in Colombia.
It said well 1 on the Max oil field discovery is currently test-flowing at around 1,220 barrels of oil per day but requires further testing to determine expected and stabilised rates.
GeoPark said the Gacheta formation produced at a rate of 149 barrels of fluid per day (bfpd), the Guadelupe formation at 299 bfpd and the Mirador at 637 bfpd.
On the Tua oil field discovery, the exploration well is currently testing at around 1,723 bopd.
On the Guadalupe formation the well produced at a rate of 366 bfpd, while on the Mirador formation it produced at 1,732 bfpd.
Chief executive James Park said: "The new Max and Tua oil discoveries represent an important step forward for GeoPark with our recently-acquired projects in Colombia.
"They demonstrate our ability to build value through the drill bit in a new region for us and represent a significant de-risking of our new Colombian acquisitions by converting exploration potential to new oil production and reserves.
"We look forward to further results from our 45-50 well drilling programme in 2012 in Chile and Colombia."
Victoria Oil & Gas (LON:VOG) has announced the start of continuous production operations at its 95%-owned and operated Logbaba gas and condensate project onshore Cameroon managed by its wholly owned subsidiary Rodeo Development Limited, (RDL).
The Company's first three customers are now taking delivery of gas in sufficient volume to allow the production facilities to operate 24 hours a day.
The company remains on schedule to increase production to 8 mmscf/d by the end of the year.
This will be driven by an increase in the number of thermal (heat requirement) customers and the installation of gas powered electrical generation units on customers' sites.
The first units are expected to come on line in mid Q4 2012. This will be a major development for Cameroon, making clean and reliable power available to industrial users.
Ithaca Energy (LON:IAE) has started drilling of the Hurricane appraisal well in block 29/10b, which lies within the company's Greater Stella Area in the UK sector of the central North Sea.
The well is being drilled using the WilHunter semi-submersible rig.
The company has contracted the services of Applied Drilling Technologies International to manage drilling operations under 'turnkey' contract arrangements.
The well programme is anticipated to take between 75 to 85 days to complete, including the performance of a drill stem test.
The Hurricane discovery well, 29/10-4z, was drilled by Shell in 1995. The well encountered 41 degrees API light oil in Eocene Rogaland sands in the western lobe of the structure.
The appraisal well will be drilled to the base of the Tertiary section in the eastern lobe of the mapped structure and is designed to satisfy three primary objectives:
* Confirm the nature and volume of recoverable hydrocarbons
* Calibrate the hydrocarbon contact with seismic amplitude
* Verify the distribution, quality and connectivity of the reservoir
Upon successful completion of the appraisal well objectives, the wellbore will be suspended for future re-entry and completion as a production well.
Melrose Resources (LON:MRS) has completed operations on the South Khilala-2 development well in Egypt, which was drilled as a high angle producer in the southern lobe of the field.
The well has been tied back to the West Khilala field facilities and is currently flowing at a rate of 14 MMcfpd, bringing the total South Khilala field production rate to 25 MMcfpd.
A preliminary assessment of the new well data indicates that the field's total recoverable proved plus probable reserves should increase from 47bn cu ft to 60 bn cu ft.
Commenting on the report, David Thomas, Chief Executive, said: "The South Khilala-2 well results are very positive, both from a reserves and deliverability perspective, and will help underpin our production forecast.
We are also encouraged by the outcome of the seismic interpretation on the Galata block, offshore Bulgaria, and pleased to have commenced the 3D seismic programme on our new concessions offshore Romania. These two initiatives will support an exciting drilling programme in the Black Sea in 2013."
The sector's biggest riser was Ascent Resources (LON:AST) - up by over

One has to be confident........Why buy the share otherwise?
All I do is read up as much information as I can......Read company reports. They appear to be heading in the right direction. They will only be good.......When they can find the "black Oil", and it to have a commercial value?

(An article I have found)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Victoria Oil and Gas has announced that it has commenced continuous production operations at its Logbaba project, onshore Cameroon.
The start date is in line with our expectations, as outlined in our last note on the Company, dated 1 June 2012.
Gas is now being delivered to three customers with a combined demand of 0.7 mmcfd. We anticipate that these contracts have been signed at a gas price of $16/mcf, in line with previous announcements by the Company. On this basis we calculate that these contracts should earn the Company in the region of $350k of revenues per month.
Victoria is assisting a number of other customers to convert their factories to take gas and remains on schedule to increase production to 8 mmcfd by the end of the year.
We believe that the ramp up in production signifies a step change in VOG’s operations and that the Company will move into profitability and become cash generative in FY 2013. At the prevailing share price, which is trading at a significant discount to NAV, we believe that VOG looks very cheap. As such we re-iterate our Buy recommendation and target price of 8.1p
