Motorpoint Group plc

Admission to trading on the London Stock Exchange

dreamcatcher - 20 May 2016 20:49 - 3 of 6

Naked Trader - Now Motorpoint (LON:MOTR) - an easy one as it's a car dealer. Surprisingly this is quite a bubbly sector of the market at the mo.

I was expecting it to be overvalued when it launched but it wasn't so I have bought in.

It's the UK's biggest independent motor trader with a different business model to the others.

Amazingly it boasts net cash, and profits have grown strongly over the last three years standing at 17m for this year end. If it can carry this on the shaers should gradually rise and it's going to pay a nice dividend too.

And as a main market listing it will make the FTSE indices and should get bought up by fund managers. Looks like a fab long-termer.

Motorpoint eyes H1 revenue growth

Motorpoint says it expects to report about 11% revenue growth underpinned by a positive like-for-like performance in H1.

"Because of the uncertainty around the result of the EU referendum, management has invested in margin to protect the Group's good level of stock turn, and managed its stock levels carefully," the company said.

"Accordingly, the volume and margin performance in the first half is behind original management expectations.

"The Group has opened three new sites in the last twelve months and although these are yet to make a positive contribution, are performing broadly to plan. Management is confident that these new sites will deliver a solid performance in the second half and beyond.

"The Group's unique and flexible stock sourcing model, combined with new car registration figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders ("SMMT"), which show continued growth in fleet registrations, provides a strong supply outlook as a significant proportion of stock is sourced from fleet companies.

"Early indications in H2 are also showing improving margin trends.

"With an improved contribution from the new site openings, good supply and an improving margin outlook, management foresees a stronger H2 weighting with net margins moving back to more normal levels.

"The pipeline of potential new sites remains encouraging, and positive progress is being made on a number of options."

Motorpoint Group posted a large rise in first-half profit as the addition of new car dealership sites helped boost revenue.

Pre-tax profit jumped to £9.7m from £2.4m a year earlier after revenue increased by 18% to £483.2m.

The company declared an interim dividend of 2.0p, up from 1.33p a year earlier.

"The second half has started well and the Group's resilient business model and focus on delivering choice, value and service leaves it ideally positioned to continue its market share growth of nearly new car sales," chief executive Mark Carpenter said.

"Whilst market conditions are always subject to external changes, the supply of stock coming into the business remains good and management are comfortable with the group's trading performance so far in H2."

"The board is therefore confident of delivering full year results in line with market expectations."

Motorpoint Group expects profit at top end of market expectations
StockMarketWire.com
Vehicle retailer Motorpoint Group said it expected to deliver an underlying profit for the current financial year at the upper end of market expectations.

Revenue was expected to grow by 18%, with gross margins remaining 'stable'.

The company said its most recent outlet openings, in Castleford, Oldbury and Sheffield, were all performing in line with its new site-contribution model.

Motorpoint said it was reiterating its commitment to a share buyback programme of up to £10m announced on 29 November.

'Notwithstanding the macroeconomic uncertainty, the board remains cautiously optimistic about the UK used vehicle market and is confident that Motorpoint's flexible stock sourcing model ensures the group is well placed to continue to grow market share,' the company said.

At 9:58am: (LON:MOTR) Motorpoint Group Plc share price was +17p at 234p
