Delays to the Independent Commission on Bankings (ICBs) proposal to ringfence banks have prompted UBS to upgrade UK lender Barclays from neutral to buy.

The broker highlighted substantial potential value in Barclays if the proposals from the ICB did not precipitate a sharp near-term funding cost as a result of the introduction of ring fencing proposals.

The ability to have more time to get a balance sheet into the right place is likely to lead to lower restructuring costs to get there, the broker said.

The broker said that unchanged price target of 208p still reflects a significant haircut to book value as a result of regulatory uncertainty.

bernard - at what juncture do banks become o'sold? ..... presumably before RBS (for example) get down tom 10p

gibby - 05 Sep 2011 20:31 - 315 of 1362

considering barcs didnt do too bad today - i was expecting more south - maybe tomorrow - sorry to anyone who bought prior to fhf - not just the the 660m if lose but all those other costs inclucing claimants costs + loss of confidence etc - what a time for this to happen

TANKER - 06 Sep 2011 08:14 - 316 of 1362

forget the us ueing banks it will not happen and will drag on for 10 years

Sequestor - 06 Sep 2011 08:19 - 317 of 1362

aye

the Democrats can`t face more poll worries, or Obama will be out post haste

gibby - 06 Sep 2011 08:41 - 318 of 1362

interesting thoughts but the ball has started rolling - if it goes on for years the costs will be very high to barcs - probabky cheaper to settle - rbs have the real worry @3.7Billion

markymar - 06 Sep 2011 08:44 - 319 of 1362

Tanker can you imagine the legal bill if it draged on for years...its not good at all.

halifax - 06 Sep 2011 08:47 - 320 of 1362

marky why assume they will lose the case?

markymar - 06 Sep 2011 09:01 - 321 of 1362

Morning Hal, dont know enough to comment on the subject I just know that when legal firms with barristers get involved the only winner is the company fighting the case charging the huge amounts they do. It could drag on for many years.
