prop - hang on one moment. You're problem sounds like the same thing that I have been suffering from for ages - but fixed this weekend. I was finding that my CPU was running an excessive amount of time causing other applications to slow down. If you check with Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) then under the processes tab check out how much time is being occupied by System Idle Process. If all other applications are off, then System Idle should take up at least 91-93% of the time. If it is lower, then you have another background process running. Or apparently so. This was my problem, but under the tab 'applications' no other processes were reported as running. I was ready to reformat the hard drive and re-install windows again, when I was advised to check the BIOS.

I found the latest BIOS version for my laptop off the net and went to install it through windows. However, this reported back that my BIOS was the most recent version and therefore didn't need updating. But don't necessarily believe that. Yes, my BIOS was the latest version, but it was subtely damaged.

To force the BIOS upgrade requires installation at power up off of a floppy disk.
Did this, and lo and behold, PC running nicely and cooler. My CPU used to run at 85 degC, but is now back to 45 degC.

This may be your problem too. Then again, maybe not. Hope this helps. :>)

Proptrade, right click on the task bar at the bottom of the screen and go into task manager, in there click on processes, there click on CPU - this will tell you which application is hogging the CPU, also click on Mem usage to see which app is using all the memory, from ther you should be able to decide on what you need to close to free up both CPU and Memory

proptrade - 31 Jan 2005 15:27 - 3160 of 7811

Starfrong and hampi_man

thx for the recommendations. i had checked the task manager etc and the problem was that there was no program to close to free up the system. also it is far worse when online using either Firefox or IE but IE is far worse. I have just got to the point when i know there is something wrong and just want to clean it all up. maybe i will get an IT buddy to help just in case things aren't that easy. the only thing to save apart from word excel and photos is itunes so may buy an external drive (zip?) which is probably good practice anyway.

Here, take this sword.

Use it wisely and well.

Well and wisely.

Slay the beast and return a hero!

Slay it and become the Man your Father intended.

Slay the beast and be the One!

Slay the beast or you'll be distended!

Yea, so I say,

Slay the beast!

any chance of any of us having a piece of those options!

namreh3 - 01 Feb 2005 12:48 - 3169 of 7811

A few days of steady trading in SEY. Options details welcome. Sorry Prop, us mortals are banned from free rides due to inherent unworthiness. Nice support level indicator confirmation though.

proptrade - 01 Feb 2005 13:03 - 3170 of 7811

agreed. a vote of confidence at 17p but i think ethically it would had been difficult to justify a sub17p price however tempting.

namreh3 - 01 Feb 2005 13:15 - 3171 of 7811

Perhaps we would (as shareholders) been more amenable to such a grant (sub 17p) ethics notwithstanding had we been given the option to grab a slice for ourselves at a discount. As it turned out many of us had just that opportunity when SP retreated, thus perhaps it's not the option price itself upon which we should be focussing but the number of options granted.

proptrade - 01 Feb 2005 13:20 - 3172 of 7811

agreed again. it is just nice to have something for nothing!

namreh3 - 01 Feb 2005 13:24 - 3173 of 7811

Yup. I hope the board disagree though. ;>)

gavdfc - 01 Feb 2005 13:28 - 3174 of 7811

Wouldn't mind the 9.5m that Harry's got for myself!

Interesting little article about the GOM here:

Emphasizing the major expansion of the oil and gas industry in deepwater Gulf of Mexico, the Minerals Management Service announces that there were 14 new deepwater startups and 12 new deepwater discoveries in 2004. According to Chris Oynes, Gulf of Mexico MMS Regional Director, "These 14 new deepwater startups and 12 deepwater discoveries show once again that the Gulf of Mexico is alive and well, helping America meet her energy needs. This tenth year of sustained expansion of deepwater production adds further to the success of previous years."

Six of these 14 starts are floating production facilities (two tension-leg platforms [TLP] and four spars) that can act as hubs for future subsea development projects. (See Table 1.) Two of these startups broke offshore records in 2004: ConocoPhillips' Magnolia set the world record for TLP water depth at 4,674 feet, and BP's Holstein is the world's largest producing spar.

"Some of these new deepwater discoveries are opening up new areas for natural such gas development in the eastern Gulf," said Oynes. "The discoveries of Atlas and San Jacinto in the Eastern Gulf have helped bring economic viability to the Independence Hub facility now being planned." Oynes also noted that "ChevronTexaco's discoveries at Tiger, Silvertip, and Jack located in Alaminos Canyon and Walker Ridge respectively, and Unocal's discovery at Tobago in Alaminos Canyon added new excitement to the Paleogene in this area."(See table 2.)
