Are you MAN enough? (EMG)

Velocity - 20 Jan 2005 21:49

I suspect trading tomorrow will probably answer this conundrum, but I know there are some far wiser owls than me that contribute to this bb & I would be interested in their opinions.

My question is this: the chart below looks to me like a pullback of the uptrend (ie when it went north through 14.00) however I am unsure as it has now broken down through 14.00 whether this is trending up or down :-(

So what do you think - up or down, or should I just flip a coin :-)) ?

12 month low 165.90 - I don't have the 2009 low.

Numis comment today:
Whilst Man is by no means low risk, as AHLs recent good performance (+7.4%
since June, c.5% below HWM today) could quickly unwind in volatile/direction-less
markets, we believe a yield of >7.3% (80-90% covered by management fees and
c.200% by surplus capital) will represent very good value to a long term investor.
Consequently, we upgrade from Add to Buy given the share price weakness this
morning.

Yield looks attractive. 7.1%

On edit - dependant on November interim amount!

Hargeaves Lansdown - of their EMG trades this morning 5.26% were sells, 94.74% were buys - so private investors shopping.

Does anyone know when the actual ex-divi date is please?
Can only find this:
"Dividend:Given business performance for the six months ending 30 September 2011, Mans strong market position and continued capital strength, the Board intends to maintain an interim dividend for the period of 9.5 cents per share, to be paid in December 2011. The company's subsequent dividend payment will be for the three months to 31 December 2011, to align dividend payments with Man's new December year end. The Board expects to propose a final dividend for this three month period of 7.0 cents per share, to give a maintained total dividend, pro-rated for the nine month period, of 16.5 cents per share. Subject to shareholder approval, the final dividend will be paid in May 2012."

skinny - 03 Oct 2011 11:45 - 337 of 960

If it follows previous years, then it should be 23rd November.

Chris Carson - 03 Oct 2011 13:53 - 338 of 960

Caps have 03/11 Interim results
23/11 Interim Ex - Divi date.

Goldman Sachs note:
"Man Group had the dubious honour of being the first asset manager to report its AUM to the end of September 2011. The groups shares fell 20% as the group reported AUM that were 10% below our forecast. Although disappointing, we believe that as further 3Q11 results are released much of the weakness will be shown to be general market weakness, rather than anything companyspecific. We slightly lower our net inflow forecasts to reflect what we expect to be a tougher fund raising environment for the groups GLG suite of products. After weak performance from GLGs absolute return vehicles in 3Q11, we also reduce our 2012 performance fee forecasts, which has a meaningful impact on EPS in that year.
Our valuation approach applies a blended P/E multiple of 10.5x to our 2012 and 2013 EPS forecasts on a time-weighted basis. As we outlined in our initiation note (Hybrid vigor: GLG synergies underappreciated; initiate as Buy, June 22, 2011) this is in line with the groups historical multiple since 1995. Insofar as it fails to take the improvement in Man Groups earnings quality into account, we believe that this is a conservative valuation approach."
