Proptrade,

I fail to see what the difference is between trading a small cap long and trading it short. Surely the arguments for both camps look at positions which will likely run to weeks or months just by virtue of the fact that they are small caps and you need a decent run to make it worthwhile. I was short numerous small caps throughout the bear market from 2000 onwards, including a few OFEX stocks (which could easily be shorted, contrary to popular opinion). I do accept that it can be more difficult shorting stocks in a rising market, but that's what stop losses are for.

Seawallwalker,

I did have to chuckle at your comment about never having respected my opinion. As I recall, you were in full support of my suggestion 4 or 5 months ago to "fillyerboots at 15p" because it was "going to a quid by Crimbo".

Incidentally, bulletin boards shouldn't be totally discounted as a medium to influence share prices. I'm not sure what a Google search will reveal because it was a few years ago, but try inputting the names "Jonathan (it might be Jonathon) Lebed" and "Terry Shepherd" into a search engine and see what it returns.

I'd heard of that guy before, he really took it to extremes. I wonder if he has heard of ADVFN....

There a difference between ramping and lies.

As he lied, that is why he had to give it all back plus interest.

It's called Criminal Deception.

Also as a 15 year old he lied to deal, also a decption. H needs to be 18 in this country to deal, I daresay it is the same in the US.

Invalid point.

Sorry much as I have enjoyed our chat, I have things to do now.

I will give you a call when I can resume this.

Have a good day all.

proptrade - 18 Feb 2005 13:21 - 3411 of 7811

but that was a valid one!

hilary - 18 Feb 2005 13:41 - 3412 of 7811

I'm not sure that Lebed did have to give it all back. As I understood it, he is said to have made $800k, of which he reached an out-of-court settlement to pay back $300k and he kept the other $500k.

Also, what crime did he commit exactly? He was investigated but never charged and nobody, including the SEC themselves, seems to be very sure of what offence he is supposed to have actually committed. What is the difference in what he did and what analysts and brokers do every day?

proptrade - 18 Feb 2005 13:47 - 3413 of 7811

unless he faked an rns then he was just spinning yarns. there must be more to it to justift the fine

Interesting!

http://www.cs.brown.edu/people/rbb/risd/Lebed.html

It just goes to prove, IMHO, that BB's DO influence people's buy and sell decisions, and are a more powerful medium than some would have you believe!

I have noticed in the past, that those that post that "you shouldn't make investment decions based on BB posts", do in fact seem to spend most of their waking moments posting away trying to influence people's investment decisions!

And I am NOT referring to Hilary here, I am referring more to posters from a 'moneyam comptetitor'
