Puntland Regional Politician Talks of Oil Discovery
One of our own contributors here at Dissident Nation had the opportunity this past week in Somalia to sit down with a Puntland regional leader, whose identity we will not reveal, in a small local conference, and listen to him ramble about the goings-on in Puntland, and the politico had this barrage of interesting points.
The leader, who we’ll call The Director, started on a negative note, stating his dislike of current Puntland President Abdirahman Faroole. The Director told our reporter that Faroole has concentrated his efforts on Nugaal and Bari Provinces, where oil exploration is ongoing, and told us that there is a road in the works that would connect the inland Nugaal Valley town and Puntland capital of Garowe to the seaside town of Eyl.
Security has also been ramped up in the two aforementioned oil-speculated provinces, as piracy moves south into Mudug Province, according to The Director.
The last subject he spoke of was the exploration in the Dharoor Valley. The Director told our reporter that a major reservoir of ‘good oil,’ as he described it, was discovered, and that an announcement was due soon. He went on to conclude that perceptions of Puntland and Somalia have changed, and that the big investors are ready to dive in with certainty.
As always, we take speculation, rumors, and word of mouth, even though this comes from a high-ranking Puntland official under anonymity, and we separate it from verified news reports that we’d normally classify as ‘World.’
