THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Up yer in Wales, we done know much bout contrainterception or whateva it is. Me girlfriend said I couldn't 'av sex with her unless I 'ad a condom. Went to the sweet shop, ironmongers, stockbroker, everywhere...they didn't sell 'em; then I went to the chemist an' they 'ad some. Well, I told the girl behind the counter I didn't know what they were, or what to do with 'em so she showed me 'ow to use 'em by rollin' one over 'er thumb. Great, I thought, tonight's the night boyo. Well, afta we done it like, yew know what I mean done yew?!, she said,"you did 'ave a condom on did'n yew boyo?" So I held up my thumb....................anyway, off to feed baby Daffyd now.

bosley - 02 Feb 2006 00:31 - 3718 of 81564

just listening to some frank, and thinking , does it get any cooler?

jimmy b - 02 Feb 2006 09:17 - 3719 of 81564

Yes bos it can , try the Verve or someone like that ,your not old yet ..

hewittalan6 - 02 Feb 2006 09:18 - 3720 of 81564

Or how about a packet of marmite flavoured twiglets and the Black Lace party album???

jimmy b - 02 Feb 2006 09:35 - 3721 of 81564

Now your talking Al ,,,i always knew you were the cool one amongst us ,,don't forget Chris De Burgh...

bosley - 02 Feb 2006 09:39 - 3722 of 81564

verve my arse!!! one good, stolen rift and ashcroft is elevated to god-like status. in truth, there was the stone roses. all the rest are just copies.

hewittalan6 - 02 Feb 2006 09:44 - 3723 of 81564

Get a grip.
The only true songwriter the world has seen for decades is Mr Paul Weller.
Now that is musical genius.

jimmy b - 02 Feb 2006 09:47 - 3724 of 81564

Bollocks ,, the Verve made some great stuff (as did the stone Roses ) Oasis nicked a lot of rifts but they were still good.

jimmy b - 02 Feb 2006 09:52 - 3725 of 81564

Don't forget Rog ,,how cool was he !!

hewittalan6 - 02 Feb 2006 09:55 - 3726 of 81564

Oh the classics Roger wrote. They just trip off the tongue.
Remember all those wonderful memories like...............
Erm..........I'll get back to you on that.

jimmy b - 02 Feb 2006 09:59 - 3727 of 81564

Well c'mon Al ,,your not really a fan are you !! what about ,i'm going to leave old Durham Town ,,classic ..

hewittalan6 - 02 Feb 2006 10:01 - 3728 of 81564

Sorry mate. I have been neglecting my Roger Whittaker studies for some time now in favour of smearing my testicles in crab paste and dangling them in our local pike pond.
Still think Paul Weller is the top man though.

bosley - 02 Feb 2006 10:06 - 3729 of 81564

alan, not going to disagree about paul weller, a true genius proved by his sustained acclaim in the industry and constant, successful reinventions. but i don't think you should dismiss writers like bowie, or others in europe who have had similar careers. also , there have been one-offs, like jeff buckley, whose music will always be around.

jimmy b - 02 Feb 2006 10:09 - 3730 of 81564

LOL Al' , well i've suuffered enough abuse on this thread for one day ,,,,actually i was feeling a bit left out ,i never seem to get any ,,i'm thinking of coming over to the SEO thread and talking to Blinger .

hewittalan6 - 02 Feb 2006 10:35 - 3731 of 81564

Not dismissing Bowie, Townshend or any of that ilk. I just think for absolute musicianship, Weller takes some beating.
His songs are so beautifully orchestrated and intricate in their construction and yet such a simple melody is the end result.
You're right about the re-inventing though.
Listen to In The City (single), Cafe Bleu (album) and English Rose (All Mod Cons album track) and you wouldn't believe they all came from the same pen in the space of about 8 years!!!

hewittalan6 - 02 Feb 2006 10:37 - 3732 of 81564

Don't mention Bling to me, Jimmy.
I've recently posted a public apology to him and that was not the easiest posting I ever wrote, believe me!!
