Somalia’s Puntland spurs India oil hope
May 17, 2012 By PARUL CHANDRA Correspondent New Delhi .aaa.More Sharing ServicesShareAdd To My PagesemailprintinShare.0..An energy-hungry India has yet another region now on its radar from where it can hope to import a valuable resource, oil. Not many here would be familiar with the Puntland region of Somalia, a country located on the horn of Africa whose name has become synonymous with piracy. But Puntland has recently discovered abundant reserves of oil.
Puntland President Abdir-rahman Mohamed Moha-mud Farole, who is currently on a visit to India, has invited Indian oil companies to participate in oil exploration in Puntland. Mr Farole met Union minister of state for petroleum and natural gas, R.P.N Singh here on Wednesday and shared with him details of the recent oil find in Puntland, said official sources.
But what must be heartening for the Indian establishment is the invite Mr Farole has extended to Indian oil companies to come to the region and carry out further exploration. He also “sought India’s cooperation for the further charting out of exploration blocks and training of Somalis in the petroleum sector,” said sources.
Puntland is a region in north-eastern Somalia, bordering Somaliland in the west. In 1998, Puntland’s leaders declared it an autonomous state. Yet, the Puntland region is for the unity of the Somali people unlike Somaliland which advocates secession. Importantly, Puntland is not seeking recognition as a separate country from the world.
Apart from oil, piracy is yet another issue that figured in the talks between the two sides. In his meeting with minister of state for external affairs E. Ahamed, the Puntland President said international support is required to explore alternative livelihoods for coastal communities affected by piracy and illegal fishing.
Puntland, he said, has deployed the Puntland maritime police force in Eyl, a former piracy hub.

3M

The ThreeConnect dongle plugs into a USB port on your PC and makes an internet connection for you. Check out this page.

http://www.three.co.uk/Store/Mobile_Broadband

You have to be careful though and make sure it can make a good connection where you live. Also the £10 option has very limited download capability of 1GB (but this should be OK for Moneyam). As I said I use it sometimes so have never used it 24/7 for a month.

Virgin will tell you that you don't need it because 3Connct is a competitor of Virgin. It also has the advantage that you can use it anywhere you can make a connection. I have a netbook which I cart around with me and use the dongle to make a connection wherever I am.

The reason I treat it as a £10 pm insurance policy is even if I don't use it it costs me £10 but it insures me against the failings of Virgin because I can always switch to the dongle and I am online again not withstanding the very unlikely situation where both services are down.

Cannot advise you on the above - would like to buy more RRL but not got any funds. I like many others at this moment in time loosing loads. Topping up on RRL would be my answer as they seem to have more going on than RMP????????????

robertalexander - 17 May 2012 14:17 - 3768 of 5221

twas opinions not advice i sort 3M. i already bunged an order in for RRL was just thinking whether the fall in RMP had been overdone and had time to gain from a quick bounce but cant watch screens al afternoon so elected for RRL on the basis of their other projects.

Shame they did not test......that's why the sp's have been slaughtered.....RRL will recover...no doubt....the other RMP...not so sure.....as nothing to fall back on that might drop below 10p....ouch.....but Range should recover...I'm sure about that....on to the next well.....not the best time to be in equities...and so far most of the wildcats have not come up to scratch...next up is Max Petroleum's deep well....and BOR's Stebbing well....
