Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

Can't believe both rkh and des are rising on this news......if des had hit oil reckon sp would go down.......

Proselenes - 02 Nov 2010 09:09 - 3874 of 6294

RF, they have proven other lower fans are charged with oil

Excellent news for RKH as Sea Lion has 8 stacked fans !!

Think Sea Lion 700 million recoverable barrels........... think 8 stacked fans all charged with oil

Delayed reaction...if des moves the rig it will drop....if it drills another well...sp might move up followed by a few drops over the next month.....becoming boring (get it ?...) a bit this lot....

Long wait until next target depth....good month I would say....anyway today is good news for Rockhopper.....that really is the one to be in....

Closed at a very small profit....not happy...wanted more....

Proselenes - 02 Nov 2010 09:16 - 3879 of 6294

The price action kind of says that after a few phone calls were made earlier today it seems confidence is high that the next Rachel drill will strike a decent size of oil.......

Now that would be nice.

Info from the initial test of Rockhoppers Sea Lion well.

The data show that the well has 53 metres of net pay distributed in multiple pay zones, the thickest of which has a net pay of 25 metres.Info from the first test of Desires Rachel well.

The data acquired during drilling operations (from logging while drilling tools and geological data from cuttings) indicates that around 25 metres of sand with oil shows was encountered.

Whilst the 25 meters mention is no doubt coincidence, and the Sea Lion show being from a successful wire logging proving the existence of oil, whilst the Rachel result is only a 'show', it just strikes me as odd. If Rockhopprs net play result was 25 meters, could this hint of a connection between the 2.

Any oil techies want to put a slant on this!

Proselenes - 02 Nov 2010 10:01 - 3881 of 6294

One and the same ? Coincidence ?

Is Rachel down dip of Sea Lion ?

Was Rachel the migration path to Sea Lion ?

Lots of possible things.

So this next well if the rig is not moved will be again less risky for RKH but a lot more for DES.....I reckon that they will now get permission to spud and the rig will not move to Jacinta and Desire better pray that they come up with the goods....

chav - 02 Nov 2010 10:19 - 3883 of 6294

The Rig will have to move rf...but not very far to Rachel 3.

chav - 02 Nov 2010 11:23 - 3884 of 6294

Been buying some RKH this morning as well as DES:-)...all systems gooooo.

Proselenes - 04 Nov 2010 10:03 - 3885 of 6294

Well, BHP had interest in the Falklands (South) with their play with FOGL.

Given Sea Lion find (big) and potential of the RKH licenses, do you get a feeling that BHP might be running the rule over RKH now ?

.............WHAT AVENUES CAN BHP PURSUE FOR GROWTH?

Oil and gas companies may be the best target on the acquisition front where it could avoid regulatory obstacles, as BHP is nowhere near as big as the majors in the sector. "They've run out of options in most other spots, so they've got to look at oil and gas," said Bentley.

BHP senior executives have said they are looking for oil and gas acquisitions, and even said the Potash deal would ....................
