Which is, as it sounds, a "strong buy" recommendation in the eyes of many.

Goldman added RKH to its "conviction buy" list - which is akin to a "strong buy" rating in the eyes of many.

Analysts believe that its Sea Lion discovery, off the Falklands, fully supports the current share price, despite applying only a two-thirds likelihood of success to the asset. Rockhopper rose 5 to 318.25p on the back of Goldman's push..........

Rachel North

Desire Petroleum plc (AIM:DES) the oil and gas company wholly focused on the North Falkland Basin, wishes to announce that both regulatory and partner approvals have been granted for Desire to drill the 14/15-2 Rachel North well.

The 14/15-1 well has been plugged and abandoned and the rig is currently waiting on weather to move to the Rachel North location.

The Rachel North well will be drilled vertically with an estimated total depth of 3,050 metres. The bottom hole location will be 1.7 kilometres from the Rachel sidetrack 14/15-1Z bottom hole location. Drilling operations are expected to last around 35 days.

It is intended that this well will evaluate the sands with oil shows encountered in the Rachel sidetrack as well as a number of possible additional sands not seen in the sidetrack.

Desire wishes to thank both the regulatory authorities and its partner Rockhopper Exploration plc for their speedy approvals to move to the new Rachel North location.

A further announcement will be made once the well has been spudded.

This is the bit I like.
'The bottom hole location will be 1.7 kilometers from the Rachel sidetrack 14/15-1Z bottom hole location'.
They must be fairly sure that the initial Rachel drills had indicated that the chances of a commercial find were high. If you were not confident and thought that those initial shows indicated a poor low volume find or even a duster, you would move as far away from that well as possible.
Looking very good, still a big risk, but the percentage of risk factor must be far lower than pre Rachel, when the sp was higher than its current level.

When you think about it, it must be highly embarrassing for quite a few "anti-Rockhopper" people that Goldman Sachs has not only put RKH as a buy, but put it onto their "Conviction Buy" list.

So now not only Merrill Lynch/Bank of America have RKH as a buy, but Goldman Sachs as well along with many others.

2011, Falklands year and in particular RKH year !

More importantly, I heard on the news this morning that the MoD have said they will be unable to defend the FI's if the Aircraft carriers & Harriers are scrapped/mothballed (which looks like a done deal).

Of course rf, but if you need to deploy more air support in a hurry from the U.k......then what? Complicated situation, but calls for some very careful planning from the MoD.

I think you will find that non-stop via The Azores, with in-flight refuelling is the fastest way (as per the Vulcan's).

rf...lol...interesting route you are flying there!!..no Airports on St helena or Tristan De Cunha.

Stanley Airport is the same size and cannot take Typoons or any other normal fast Jet...they had arrester gear fitted post 1982 for the Phantoms untill MPA was built.

MPA can handle any Jets and could be reinforced within a few hours using Mid Air refueling, which is how the current Typoons got there...the general plan is that the resident forces only have to hold out till the rapid reinforcement occurs.

Not sure that worked the last time.....MPA would quickly go the way Moody Brook went. Prime target.
We might have to ask friends to provide the tanker coverage for the numbers required unless we are prepared to wait for the new tanker fleet to come in a few years time...
