Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

David Hart of Westhouse Securities takes a portfolio approach to investing in exploration stocks

Monday, November 29, 2010

David Hart, Oil & Gas analyst at Westhouse Securities, tells Proactive Investors why a portfolio approach is better for investing in exploration companies. He looks at Petro Matad, Encore Oil, Nautical Petroleum, Xcite Energy, Rockhopper Exploration and Desire Petroleum...........

On the night, the judges awarded the the Small Cap prize to Encore but the company was pipped by Falklands group, Rockhopper Exploration (LON:RKH) for the title of Explorer of the Year. Rockhopper's strength in this category came as little surprise. Its share price soared earlier this year on news that it had become the first (and so far only) explorer in the region to give investors something to cheer about. Nevertheless, EnCores CEO, Alan Booth won the most prestigious award for Executive of the Year, fending off competition from Amjad Beisu of EnQuest (LON:ENQ), Ronald Pantin of Pacific Rubiales (TSE:PRE) and Tom Cross of Dana Petroleum. Tom Cross had been seen by some as a favourite in recognition of its efforts at Dana, which was taken over recently in a titanic struggle by KNOC. However, observers noted that the recent stratospheric share price performance of The Parkmead Group (LON:PMG) is in itself clear recognition of the esteem in which Tom is held by investors.

Up this morning on the coat tails of the DES rise - which is welcome...

Still mirroring the DES graph.

Some poster are calling this share a 'DOG' and pleading with people to sell. Nice to know others have our welfare to heart.
I just hope its as much of a dog as Rockhopper was just prior to their last strike. Remember those few days before the Rockhopper strike when the price totally bombed.

Just heard another rumor, that the previous rumors are rumors.
The fact is if anyone does know oil found or not, they won't be telling us just yet. :-\

It's for reasons like this that I'm 3/4 in RKH and only 1/4 in DES.....

I love this........ an easy way to make yourself look like a ..........

First, comment early in the year as follows :

http://en.mercopress.com/2010/12/02/us-was-concerned-about-argentine-reactions-to-falkland-islands-exploration-round

........This in spite of the fact that a telegram from the US embassy in London, February 2010, includes the opinion of Exxon-Mobil CEO Brad Corson who believes there is not enough oil in the Falklands continental platform to make it commercially viable.........

And then later the same year a UK company named Rockhopper finds loads of oil, commercially viable and could be a world class size find once appraised = hello Sea Lion. Now perhaps people understand why so many people are anti-Falklands oil, they are all licking their wounds because they all said earlier pre-Sea Lion with such bravado that there will never be any commercial oil size finds, and now there is a possible world class find waiting appraisal.....

Oh dear, I think he got it very wrong with his "informed" opinion, IMO, in hindsight ......

LOL :)

Wikileaks is great !!!!!!! Love it.

RNS out on Des.

Preliminary data collected indicate that this well is an oil discovery.
From the Des RNS.....349 metres gross interval with hydrocarbons ,of which 57 metres is net pay.

From early RKH drill results from Sealion.......217m gross oil column with net pay of 53m.

OK obviously VERY,early days yet and many more tests to carry out, but the indications are that the Des find is at least as big as the Rock find.

So looking very good for Des and even more so for Rock.

The EASTERN FLANK FAIRWAY is now proven......... that is the big news.

greekman - 02 Dec 2010 08:02 - 3963 of 6294

Looks like straight into auction, as it tries to sort itself out.

I reckont that the area is one big sea of oil....both discoveries are probably linked....perhaps ?....or are they different bodies....?...we shall see....

HARRYCAT - 02 Dec 2010 09:31 - 3965 of 6294

Sam Moody wasn't exactly overawed:
"Moody said, 'These preliminary results from Rachel North, when combined with Rockhopper's Sea Lion oil discovery, are encouraging for the basin.' "

Proselenes - 02 Dec 2010 09:35 - 3966 of 6294

Sea Lion is a giant..... why would 8M of potential pay be exciting to Sam when he has a world class find on his hands that will likely end up between 500 million and 700 million recoverable barrels 100% owned.

RKH is now the leader, and DES the follower.........

I would put RKH at central point on the Eastern Fairway, with DES having the poorer extremes to the south.
