Gulf Keystone Petroleum (LSE: GKP) has gained 23% to 219p so far this week, following news that fellow Kurdistan oil explorer Genel Energy has started to export oil directly to Turkey -- the first time this has been allowed. The move raises hopes that a larger-scale deal for exports will soon be agreed and that the current backlog of payments due to the producers by Iraq's central government will soon be cleared. Investors are also hopeful that Gulf Keystone's legal dispute over the ownership of part of its Shaikan find will soon be resolved -- the court case is due to conclude later this month.

Actually GKP is back in Court today.

16/01/13 09:39 221.36 211 O 221.0 221.75 Sell

Good volume and momentum, not surprising with lots of news in the very near future.

cynic - 16 Jan 2013 10:10 - 3981 of 5505

was tempted to buy more, but it's quite margin-greedy and that would have left my pot lower than i would have liked ..... but certainly looking healthy at long last

2 hrours to go and over 7million traded, broken through the 225p barrier,it'll be interesting to see how it ends up?

niceonecyril - 16 Jan 2013 16:40 - 3984 of 5505

Decided to keep an eye on the trading today, felt like an effort to hold it back? But pressure of buying kept the momentum, giving a finish of 226p.

Volume steadily rising,10million traded today.

After taking note of several comments on iii yesterday about the asset sale being bad for GKP's board of directors as they have large share holdings, I have put this point to the people who gave me the information.
It seems the decision to transfer the PSC's directly from GKP to the Turks for cash rather than as a result of a GKP buyout is one that was taken by the KRG not GKP. It was necessary for valuation purposes and Turkish regulatory reasons, is not popular here, but will not be disputed.

Gary Parkinson Market report The Times
Published 1 minute ago 17/01/13

To wrap up the day’s smattering of speculation, there was Gulf Keystone Petroleum, chased another 10p higher to 226p amid whispers of an impending upgrade to its assessment of how much oil it is sitting on in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. There was also a rumour that GKP’s legal dispute with a former Green Beret over 30 per cent of its asset would go the way of the AIM company

cynic - 17 Jan 2013 11:10 - 3988 of 5505

some profit taking has set in, and if sp drops to 200, then that looks a time to buy

niceonecyril - 17 Jan 2013 13:33 - 3989 of 5505

Yws it looks that way, exprcting news soon, should be next week possibly from MOL?
