Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. I have a colleague who has 50K of RKH and 50K of DES. Both were picked up for a few pence a long time ago. He's still quite happy although he probably doesn't know his holdings are worth a lot less today as he is in Kyrgystan right now. I doubt he will have web access as he is off for an interview and away for a week or so.

December update to the Sea Lion appraisal EIS says RKH get the rig back end Jan 2011.

That would mean DES will stop drilling after Jacinta, so it looks like last throw the dice for DES for now, and also RKH get the rig back earlier !

1982...40 Royal Marines V 6,000 Dagoes (5,000 no problem but 6K bit much) no Air cover and no Royal navy cover.


2011...huge difference in defense capability and even the Argies are bright enough to understand that fact.

Gibby - don't get me started. I was there for the fall and recapture of the FIs last time.

There is a world of difference between '82 and now - politically and militarily. It would take a military coup in Argentina to even get such an endeavour on the drawing board - even if they could afford to do so.
