Andy,

Yep, Stevie Lovell, cracking player for us, never stops running and has a good eye for goals. He's well respected with the fans. Can't see us being able to keep him though, Aberdeen have been after him for quite a while so will no doubt get him this summer. Just hope we don't lose the manager, Jim Duffy, excellent manager and used to be in charge of the youth set up at Chelsea a few years ago. Couldn't really blame him if he decides to move on though considering what he had to work with. We'll probably be out of business in a few years if we don't get back up next year.

seawallwalker - 27 May 2005 07:54 - 4082 of 7811

I have not seen it, bit I am told Shares Mag say that SEY is said to be undervalued.

Theres a surprise.

Andy - 27 May 2005 08:50 - 4083 of 7811

SWW,

Even better than that, they have also included it in their oil portfolio, replacing Regal!

This is on the "Prospector's" weekly resource feature, this week on page 34.

=================================

"Sterling Energy (SEY:AIM), which has been in before but looks increasingly
attractive at the current price of 14.5p."

proptrade - 27 May 2005 09:00 - 4084 of 7811

not that this mag has much credibility but i would rather something positive than negative!

seawallwalker - 27 May 2005 09:10 - 4085 of 7811

Not much credibilty???

That will be why I am a failed trader then.

I only read Shares.........

lol

proptrade - 27 May 2005 11:20 - 4086 of 7811

you would be better off reading your horosope!

i always remeber the advice of a very successful trader friend of mine - on your way to work if you see a construction site and most of the cranes at that moment are pointing left, then sell. if they are right, then buy. simple and made him a fortune!

Andy - 27 May 2005 11:22 - 4087 of 7811

prop, SWW,

LOL!

I've noticed that it's Shares 'RAG' when it's negative towards a threads particular share, but has full credibility as Shares 'MAG', when they are bullish on a stock!

I personally find IC and Shares as useful sources of information, and a starting point to do some research on a stock.

I have made money on stocks that I first became aware of in shares.

it is all just gentle ribbing but the problem with financial journalism is that they are JOURNALISTS and not analysts. If they were they would be bigging is up at a bank.

we CAN be traders and not be in a bank becasue we work for ourselves and the views and research on decisions is our own (and our own capital). These other punters write a story often just for something to say and often misrepresent the company, news or results just to fill a few inches.

YES, use them as reference but i can tell you that you must DYOR as well. I know i am teaching you to suck eggs here but these guys so often spount utter tosh!

gavdfc - 27 May 2005 12:42 - 4089 of 7811

Interesting discussion here re financial reporting. Tipsters, whether they be journalists in magazines, newspapers, websites or tip sheets have to give out tips. If people pay for sites such as T1ps, Wotshot, RHPS etc etc then these subscribers expect to get tips from them all the time. Therefore they have to write some positive stuff on companies to keep their subscribers happy. You only have to look at some of the trades on a Thursaday or Friday when Shares or IC come out. If they heavily tip a company then you can see from the off that sometimes a share will shoot up on heavy buying especially in the small caps. I agree that these sort of publications can alert you to companies or situations that you may not have heard of, and if so, they can provide the start of the DYOR process, so in that respect they may be useful. However, ask yourself this, given the time from the tip being published to the market opening that day, how can all these buyers have DYOR in such a short time?

I made a lot last year on ASC from 10p up to 40. I'd never heard of the company before until reading about it in my local Sunday paper. Did my research and bought in twice and it served me well. The same can be said for BB's. They can provide an introduction to a share that you might not have heard of but again, must be used as the start of the DYOR. After all, its my hard earned cash that I put into the market so why should I do so on some else's say so. If it goes wrong then it's my bad call and I take the blame. I dont subscribe to any websites, tip services and not bought Shares or IC this year.

proptrade - 27 May 2005 14:40 - 4090 of 7811

good man and well said!

that is the point....get on a BB and see what people are talking about. Read the newspapers, watch bberg....all is part of the DYOR exercise.

Financial Journalists have a wider audience. If out Thread was published, SEY would be a quid by now!

stockdog - 27 May 2005 15:13 - 4091 of 7811

I read RHPS as the start, as you say, of the DYOR process. I have also trained myself to sit on my hands for a week before buying till the post-publication surge has ebbed.

Cheers Prop. One thing I always like to do is to make contact with the companies that I hold, especially when taking a decent sized medium term position. I find it helps when trying to find out or have information clarified quickly if you have already made contact with someone at the company previously. The DYOR doesn't just stop after you've made your buys.

Stockdog, good point re buying after something has been tipped. Also by sitting on your hands for that week, you have time to DYOR. I suspect many people lose money buying in immediately when something is tipped only to see the price fall back so they sell out and lose money.

Found this little snippet in todays Scotsman whilst googling:

"And leaping from Gulf Keystone to the Gulf of Mexico, a doubling of production from Sterling Energys Osprey assets located there was behind a recent surge in the companys latest profits, a rise of 130 per cent to 4.2m. Its latest results show that proved and probable reserves rose to 21 million barrels of oil equivalent, from just under 4000 this time last year. With several developments coming on stream, cash-flow should increase next year, making Sterling worth tracking."
