SWW,
Even better than that, they have also included it in their oil portfolio, replacing Regal!
This is on the "Prospector's" weekly resource feature, this week on page 34.
=================================
"Sterling Energy (SEY:AIM), which has been in before but looks increasingly
attractive at the current price of 14.5p."

you would be better off reading your horosope!
i always remeber the advice of a very successful trader friend of mine - on your way to work if you see a construction site and most of the cranes at that moment are pointing left, then sell. if they are right, then buy. simple and made him a fortune!

prop, SWW,
LOL!
I've noticed that it's Shares 'RAG' when it's negative towards a threads particular share, but has full credibility as Shares 'MAG', when they are bullish on a stock!
I personally find IC and Shares as useful sources of information, and a starting point to do some research on a stock.
I have made money on stocks that I first became aware of in shares.

it is all just gentle ribbing but the problem with financial journalism is that they are JOURNALISTS and not analysts. If they were they would be bigging is up at a bank.
we CAN be traders and not be in a bank becasue we work for ourselves and the views and research on decisions is our own (and our own capital). These other punters write a story often just for something to say and often misrepresent the company, news or results just to fill a few inches.
YES, use them as reference but i can tell you that you must DYOR as well. I know i am teaching you to suck eggs here but these guys so often spount utter tosh!

Interesting discussion here re financial reporting. Tipsters, whether they be journalists in magazines, newspapers, websites or tip sheets have to give out tips. If people pay for sites such as T1ps, Wotshot, RHPS etc etc then these subscribers expect to get tips from them all the time. Therefore they have to write some positive stuff on companies to keep their subscribers happy. You only have to look at some of the trades on a Thursaday or Friday when Shares or IC come out. If they heavily tip a company then you can see from the off that sometimes a share will shoot up on heavy buying especially in the small caps. I agree that these sort of publications can alert you to companies or situations that you may not have heard of, and if so, they can provide the start of the DYOR process, so in that respect they may be useful. However, ask yourself this, given the time from the tip being published to the market opening that day, how can all these buyers have DYOR in such a short time?
I made a lot last year on ASC from 10p up to 40. I'd never heard of the company before until reading about it in my local Sunday paper. Did my research and bought in twice and it served me well. The same can be said for BB's. They can provide an introduction to a share that you might not have heard of but again, must be used as the start of the DYOR. After all, its my hard earned cash that I put into the market so why should I do so on some else's say so. If it goes wrong then it's my bad call and I take the blame. I dont subscribe to any websites, tip services and not bought Shares or IC this year.

good man and well said!
that is the point....get on a BB and see what people are talking about. Read the newspapers, watch bberg....all is part of the DYOR exercise.
Financial Journalists have a wider audience. If out Thread was published, SEY would be a quid by now!

I read RHPS as the start, as you say, of the DYOR process. I have also trained myself to sit on my hands for a week before buying till the post-publication surge has ebbed.

Cheers Prop. One thing I always like to do is to make contact with the companies that I hold, especially when taking a decent sized medium term position. I find it helps when trying to find out or have information clarified quickly if you have already made contact with someone at the company previously. The DYOR doesn't just stop after you've made your buys.
Stockdog, good point re buying after something has been tipped. Also by sitting on your hands for that week, you have time to DYOR. I suspect many people lose money buying in immediately when something is tipped only to see the price fall back so they sell out and lose money.
Found this little snippet in todays Scotsman whilst googling:
"And leaping from Gulf Keystone to the Gulf of Mexico, a doubling of production from Sterling Energys Osprey assets located there was behind a recent surge in the companys latest profits, a rise of 130 per cent to 4.2m. Its latest results show that proved and probable reserves rose to 21 million barrels of oil equivalent, from just under 4000 this time last year. With several developments coming on stream, cash-flow should increase next year, making Sterling worth tracking."

I also make contact with companies and on occasion sit down with management. The best research of all and ofetn a fanancial guessjournalist sits in a room with 20 of his kind and they rarely have the old one-on-one or EVER get the real info because managemnet know they are press.
DYOR as yo all do and this time next year we will all be (XX)illionares!

Wow, some posts! Evening all. Anyone else think that we may be at the bottom of the recent downward move? Looks as if a bounce from here could be on the cards. Also of note is that oil closed just shy of $55bbl with quite a sharp rise today. The US is now into their driving season and according to CNBC "hurricane season"! Heard someone talking about some report that came out in the US predicting that they are forecasting increased storms in the Carribean and GoM. If true then would imagine that it would cause some type of supply issues. Also, Sterling are presenting at this months Oilbarrel conference in London, looking forward to reading the write up's on their presentation. Anyone here actually going to the conference?

Just found this:
YOUR MARKET Jun 2 2005
By Kareem Khouri
OIL and gas stocks have come off the boil recently as the underlying prices for these commodities hit a three month low and the AIM market, in particular, becomes awash with other companies in the sector.
Sometimes it is hard to establish the good from the bad in a sector, which inevitably will contain a few nasty surprises later this year.
The pull-back in stock prices recently has meant that good companies have come back just as far as some of the poorer ones and now may well be an opportune time to have a look at some of the better ones.
Sterling Energy has to be a lead candidate in this area. There are two aspects to Sterling's value - `core' and `risked' exploration.
Core is covered by the producing assets in Texas and the upcoming field of Chinguetti, in Mauritania, which comes on stream in the first quarter of 2006.
Outside of Mauritania, the group owns acreage in Madagascar, Gabon, Cameroon, Senegal and Guinea Bissau. Sterling is in a strong position to have its investment carried for free by other parties. This is a high risk investment and we suggest you discuss it with your broker, but below 16p, we rate it as a buy#Kareem Khouri is a partner at stockbrokers Killik & Co's Canary Wharf office. The firm is regulated by the FSA. He does not have any holdings in the above mentioned shares. Share prices can go down as well as up

with you on this one, MACD looks reasonably positive and the trend has just made a double bottom. RSI was showing divergance, prior to today's small rise, so should have something of a rally now.

Hi PT,
I'm confident that we will start to rise from here. Looking at the chart going back to last year, we have bounced from this price a few times so hopefully we will do so again this time. A rally on decent volume would be nice to see.
Also, as I understand it from reading the last results, we should see more drilling activity in Mauritania from HNR and also some drilling news from the GoM with Mustang Island 749 GU No. 2 which was expected to reach target in mid-May. Looking for a busy end to the year.
Cheers

RE CHINGUETTI DRILLING UPDATE
PAGES: 2
Hardman Resources Limited ("Hardman" or "the Company") announces that the
drilling rig "Stena Tay" has completed the drilling of the wells required for
the first phase of the Chinguetti development project, offshore Mauritania.
This drilling program included 5 new oil producers, 5 water injectors to
maintain reservoir pressure, and 1 gas injection well drilled on the Banda
discovery for disposal of the Chinguetti associated gas. The Chinguetti early
development well drilled in late 2003 will also be tied into the production
system, resulting in the planned 6 producing wells being on stream at the end of
the first phase of development. During the drilling of the Banda gas injection
well a number of cores were cut and fluid samples taken, to aid in the
continuing evaluation of this discovery. The "West Navigator" drilling rig
remains in the Chinguetti field and is continuing work on the installation of
well completion equipment. As of 31 May 2005 sand completion equipment had been
installed on 7 of the 10 new wells, and this work will be followed by the
installation of the production tubing and subsea trees before connecting the
wells to the Berge Helene Floating Production Storage and Offtake (FPSO) Vessel
for production.
Drilling results on Chinguetti were positive, meeting or exceeding expectations.
The completion of the drilling phase removes one significant element of forward
project risk and confirms that the volume of oil-in-place is at least as
expected. On the assumption that early well performance remains in line with
forecasts, Hardman anticipates that this will result in an increase in proven
reserves when it carries out its initial reserves redetermination. The project
is now over 71% complete and the target date for first oil from the Chinguetti
field remains Quarter 1, 2006.
The "Stena Tay" is preparing to move to the Canary Islands for upgrade works
before returning in July to commence the 2005/6 exploration and appraisal
program. The forward drilling schedule and selection of the exploration and
appraisal targets are the subject of a number of key joint venture meetings to
be held from mid-June.
