Petrofac - service supplier to oil/gas industry (PFC)

cynic - 31 Jul 2006 16:46

Chart.aspx?Provider=EODIntra&Code=PFC&Si

On 3rd July PFC announced that it was trading well ahead of expectations. Not surprisingly, sp jumped but has now fallen back pretty much to the same level as before the announcement.

While perhaps not as exciting as finding the next Cairn, remember that in the goldrush days, it was rarely the prospectors who made the money, but rather the suppliers of the spades and tents and stuff - e.g. Levis if memory serves me aright.

cynic - 26 Feb 2007 13:52 - 41 of 839

i very much like the company and sector, though i note that one of the fund managers suggests switching from PFC to Wood ..... glad to see sp at last breaching 400 and keeping fingers crossed that it will hold it ...... 25 dma thundering up underneath

hlyeo98 - 05 Mar 2007 08:56 - 42 of 839

PFC is not the only one going down...DOO and RVA hit too.

cynic - 05 Mar 2007 09:30 - 43 of 839

DOO and RVA are little 3rd rate companies (though I hold DOO) ..... PFC is in a totally different league (and sector!)

hlyeo98 - 05 Mar 2007 09:34 - 44 of 839

But as u say, it is a steam roller...FTSE down by 102 now

cynic - 06 Mar 2007 08:10 - 45 of 839

i have been telling you all, this was a really good company in which to invest ..... yesterday's figures proved the point .... today's Telegraph and prob other papers too will tell you to BUY

canary9 - 06 Mar 2007 08:31 - 46 of 839

Cynic,I hope your optimism is rewarded, but market seems pretty unimpressed so far. Needs this kind of performance with the current rating. How long can it continue?

hlyeo98 - 06 Mar 2007 08:33 - 47 of 839

cynic, PFC has been going down ever since the news came out. SELL on the news.

cynic - 06 Mar 2007 08:49 - 48 of 839

i already hold and shall definitely continue to do so ..... this company has proven quality ...... much better (safer) investment than the likes of SOLA which is fine for trading with stop losses and a view to sell at a predetermined target level.

cynic - 06 Mar 2007 10:56 - 49 of 839

98 .... and recovering gently (now +8/10p) .... as i keep saying, though most here choose to ignore, this is a quality company with the records and forward order book to prove it

scotinvestor - 06 Mar 2007 16:40 - 50 of 839

u r the only flogging this one cynic

u always seem to be doom and gloom on the shares that i have

pfc seem a bit high at present

cynic - 06 Mar 2007 16:44 - 51 of 839

rad the figures and trading statement and press reports and then tell me again sp is too high.

if i throw cold water on your choices, that's because it's the way i genuinely see it.

if i am the only one who rates wheat over chaff, then keep eating straw; i'll stick to fine white bread (+ colon cancer!)

Another long term holder here. Sticking to quality (mainly medium sized businesses) has paid handsomely for me over more than 30 years. OK might miss the odd rapid ten bagger, but also miss the much more prevalent dross. Scotinvestor - what do you hold? If they do not make profits, generate cash and pay dividends, then IMO chances are you will lose money over time. Last three years have been very benign, so dross done better than might be expected longer term. Only difficulty I can see at present to hinder growth for PFC is that they cannot keep order book down to an acceptable level for their customers i.e getting the job done within an acceptable time. Sector dictates that price likely to be volatile from time to time, but IMO long term trend likely to be upwards.Always DYOR.

TheFrenchConnection - 13 Mar 2007 14:46 - 53 of 839

Difficult to play the Devils advocate on PFC..One can but reiterate its a Quality stock. Perhaps on face value it may appear a little expensive - but considering its recent results, profits and cashflow with div covered 4 times; and with the provisio of a full order book for 2007, this price is quite justified . What do you want ?? The moon on a stick ? !! Bought a few, a year or so back, on the back of the tight rotary count,{ 95.7% inc. workovers } with a few other oil / gas sector plays on manufacters of infrastructure in the industry .SDX springs to mind ....Usually as many of you know i only invest in this sector coupled with a number of mining concerns and a 10% AND GROWING PERCENTILE in utlities -- WATER !!! } ......Lets face facts . Oil Expos alone without ANY BANKED RESERVES or endless pockets,or j/v partners of the BEST kind ( sic) are PURE specuculation - No REAL money there this past year without unparralled risk - .Even Expo/PRODUCERS -even BIG OIL { B.P. down 200 pts in a matter of months .} have taken a larruping lately !!! ...............Yet Messrs Levi andco denim manufacturers still ply there trade to this day ......theres a simle moral there somewhere ...lncidentally i would have posted on this thread earliar ; but has no idea it even existed. .......Bonne chance et al .......a'bientot ...@+ J. Hi hlyeo - You like your charts . Scrutinize this one . Chases upper bolly ..support levels fom a few ema ...................but at the end of the day you cannot ignore the results !..........

Cynic, Without wishing to sound like a psycophant, thanks for getting me onto this and RTN. I'm new to this and spread betting only, but you've done me proud. PFC does look a little overbought at the moment, any idea why it appears to be rocketing?

cynic - 04 Apr 2007 11:06 - 55 of 839

it's just a damn good company with the right product in the right sector ..... btw, do mean you are a psychopath or a sycophant?

garfeebloke - 04 Apr 2007 11:12 - 56 of 839

Hopefully neither! I will own that the more usual spelling is without the "p" although both are acceptable.......I was about to credit The Grauniad then and thought better of it.

TheFrenchConnection - 04 Apr 2007 16:25 - 57 of 839

Amities Cynic / Penny for your thoughts ,,,,,,,Do you have a target s/p at which you will make a grand exit ? l bought last year and sold at 437 thinking it was overbought yet it powers on relentlesly .......What with it going xd on the 6th are you of opinion we shall see a lull beyond the div offering ? or juste more steam as this thing appears effing rocket fuelled .. ..m/b @+ J ...

cynic - 04 Apr 2007 16:44 - 58 of 839

no specific target but shall run a tight stoploss ..... but don't forget i am a trader at heart

TheFrenchConnection - 04 Apr 2007 18:00 - 59 of 839

nice play mon ami , A very nice play & credit where it is due .Felicitations ! .i am a percentages player myself C , and not untirely like yourself l trade as opposed to invest. As for PFC; l bought initially early last year; but recently its 10 and 50 ema screamed "BUY me" @ 385 at which time i added my last tranche ...............but as l approach the latter half of my 3o's i feel like sticking everything into a currently much undervalued BP with its huge yield ..We all know oil is not going anywhere but up ,,,,and in doing so save myself the never ending call on CFD s and settlement dates of which i have a stack .........BUT if it wasnt the Financial exchanges it would be Newmarket or Ascot; or morelikely Chantilly or Fontainebleu back home lol Faires attention et bonne chance ,,,@+ J ............

cynic - 05 Apr 2007 10:56 - 60 of 839

still love this company but have just banked my profits (again!) as some consolidation of sp looks likely (can't go up in a straight line for ever) ... shall assuredly buy back again in due course

just for those who reckon spivvy penny stocks outperform quality, i see that when i first brought up this stock in early november, it was about 340 and is now 460 .... only +35% gain in 5 months, but what have GOO, PCI, CHP, SEY, BFC(!!!), (SEO!!!) and a swathe of similar "fave stocks" got to show
