Centamin Egypt : Worth waiting for... (CEY)

pthwaite - 20 Sep 2004 10:27

CEY is a gold mining company operating in Egypt. It was ordered by the Egyptian Government to stop drilling pending a legal dispute brought against the company by a government minister.

Since then, the whole Government cabinet was replaced a few months ago and the minister now in charge of Mining is believed to be positive on Western investment in the country. CEY are pushing for this minister to allow them to continue drilling ASAP; investers are waiting....patiently.

As soon as the company gets the go-ahead to continue drilling, the share price will move north; CEY has plenty of gold in this mine and it is (apparantly) the case of "raking" it out rather than drilling for it!

Check them out...worthy of a punt.

Yes I know cynic, I was merely making a point.

IMHO, most AIM stocks are dead-in-a-duck which has little to do with their prospects. MM's don't want them in case they go bust and they have been marked down to the basement. The problem is that PI's are refusing to sell them and nobody wants to buy a share that is going nowhere so there is no market for them.

If you notice at the moment, with one or two notable exceptions (Falkies), any decent news that comes out has little effect on the sp. Really, it is just a vicious circle. If however, the sp does escape the bottom rung and a market is created in the share with buyers and sellers then the sp will rise. eg you saw it recently with VOG to name but one. For many, once it has risen, it will then stay at that level (VOG; CONDOR and over the last couple of days THOR). What happens occassionally is that that the sellers keep coming in to lock in a profit of a share that keeps rising. The MM's don't want the share so they keep allowing the sp to rise to attract buying PI's which is, in my opinion, the reason why we have seen a few extraordinary rises (BPC). The problem is knowing which one is going next and how far it is going to rise.

As I say, it is my take on it, I may be wrong and if any MM's want to genuinely reply (as I'm sure they trawl these threads) then I am quite happy to be proved wrong. It is why I say once you have sold, particularly in the tiddlers, atm it is very difficult to chose the moment to get back in.

Of course now I have said all this, it will probably all change and yes, I know rf there are exceptions.

maybe your being to clinical and playing the field as it comes is the name of the game.....so to speak, we're all making money.....even rf.,.

cynic - 09 Dec 2010 19:44 - 423 of 2354

for sure you are wrong, assuming i have understood you correctly ..... the companies you mention are all, i think, micro-minnows (amoeba even!) .... however, there are very well capitalised and profitable companies indeed on AIM

for myself, i don't check or care on which index the companies which interest me are quoted .... i do however, have something of an aversion to companies that are "MM only", even if i invest (sorry - take a gamble some would say) in some - XEL being the classic

This is a good company but too big....good for trading within a certain range within an isa or such.....but don't expect any miracle movements because there won't be any...that was a couple of years ago...buy this ..it goes up 10p....and then out....nice profit but yawn,,,really.....

HARRYCAT - 10 Dec 2010 08:59 - 425 of 2354

.

cynic - 10 Dec 2010 09:08 - 426 of 2354

RF - sounds as though you only like dealing in micro-minnows with wild swings in either direction .... does that mean you (stupidly) bought into the likes of BPC and SOLG?

dealerdear - 10 Dec 2010 12:09 - 427 of 2354

Well I still think I'm right about it and my understanding of the market seems to be making me money even if I have got the theory totally wrong so I guess I shouldn't concern myself about it!.

Balerboy - did you mean 'clinical' or 'cynical'?

cynic - 10 Dec 2010 12:17 - 428 of 2354

DD - i first started dealing/trading in this stock when it was perhaps 50/60p .... as you can see from the 2 year chart below, while the rise has not been stellar, it's been very consistent and strong

Balerboy - 10 Dec 2010 12:36 - 429 of 2354

have you always kept some/traded some or sold all and buy back cyners?? lol DD.,.

cynic - 10 Dec 2010 12:44 - 430 of 2354

for sure haven't held for all that time

aldwickk - 10 Dec 2010 13:28 - 431 of 2354

I first bought them at 15p , just before they got the license to mine.

dealerdear - 10 Dec 2010 13:41 - 432 of 2354

I won't carry-on about my point - honest - but when I say 'this market' I mean over the past few months. I'm obviously not talking about 2/3 years which as you say cynic, this has been a great riser.

Anyway, as always, good luck with your investing/trading.

Balerboy - 10 Dec 2010 13:41 - 433 of 2354

dealerdear - 10 Dec 2010 14:03 - 436 of 2354

cynic - 10 Dec 2010 14:07 - 437 of 2354

regardless - the water damage should still be covered under house insurance, but a real pain and mess for all that

dealerdear - 10 Dec 2010 14:13 - 438 of 2354

Agreed - but I guess we should get back to talking about CEY before rf smacks my legs ...

required field - 10 Dec 2010 14:18 - 439 of 2354

No SOLG whatever that is........but been in and out several times in BPC.....prefer smaller companies.....not keen on big ones at all...
