Haven't sold any since the rise....as far as I'm concerned they are still drilling, perhaps more oil at the bottom, if not on with the next well....I think this is good for more than a pound..just a question of when....EK shorting....not convinced that's a good decision !.

Have a nice holiday Cynic...."Fleurie" and "Le Moulin a Vent" are amongst the best reds in that area....you probably already have tasted or heard of them.

it's the growers (and negociants) who are far more important in the production of quality than just the village names ..... same is true of any generic wine, which is why it can all be such a minefield

I might be mistaken but I think that there are 7 great reds in that area, can't remember them all, anyway a little trip to the "Maconnais" is just around the corner from there and Lyon is the gastronomic capital of France, so the food there is superb and reasonably priced.

in no particular order
brouilly, julienas, fleurie, chenas, moulin a vent, st amour, chiroubles, morgon and regnie (something of a recent addition)
the best are arguably fleurie and moulin a vent followed by morgon and (probably) cote de brouilly - a step up and north from straight brouilly
i think calling any of them "great reds" is something of an overstatement unless you want to spread some flattery!

They are not cheap in France either..prices for some wines have rocketed...the "Chateau neuf du Pape" (not to everybody's taste) from the southern Rhone region is now over 10 pounds...just a rip off...

grower/negociant is of prime importance every time ...... duboeuf makes good commercial stuff when it is as stated (another story) but there is an awful lot of thin acidic about too
for good advice, nicholas (took over oddbins) and majestic are usually pretty knowledgeable .... and of course the quality indies know their stuff

The Brouilly is cheaper than the others...

CNdP can cost a great deal more than that and still be good value ..... again, you get back to the prob of generic wines
Perrin is among the best - happens to make it organically - and Guigal is pretty good too ..... plenty of good/adequate growers and a huge number of acidic piss makers/takers
=======
you need to differentiate between straight Brouilly and Cote de Brouilly ..... and of course the grower as always plays a huge part

i know a little .... used to know more, especially when i used to go to the auctions regularly ...... quite hilly cycling on the beauj villages side of the saone, so we are splitting it with the other bank, where there are some big surprises, like a huge area of artificial lakes dating back to 18th century or thereabouts (Les Dombes)
