Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

Best odds of the drilling campaign so far in the FI so who would want to sell is the question and why?

Order book is looking weaker today on buys v sells but still looking positive and some hefty buys on the books.

I see DES did better than RKH yesterday but there is a big seller at 37.75p of 200,000, now if that gets taken out I can see Desire flying again.

Falkland Islands will be the focus for the next few days

With results due from Rockhopper's 14/10-4 well anytime there are going to be a lot of investors in the company as well as the other Falkland Oil explorers glued to their trading screens today. It could even be a 7am RNS, but lets see! The well will give a strong idea of the extent of the Southern lobe of the Sea Lion discovery. Looks like it could be a complicated RNS to interpret when it comes too with no doubt much interpretation from the geologists on the bulletin boards - oil/water contacts, net pay, fill to spill etc. etc. If the RNS talks about a 20-25 metre net pay with no Oil/Water contact (OWC) then its celebration time.

With a market capitalisation of 591 million, and probably 190 million in the bank, the company is valued at little more than P10 reserves of 50 million barrels. If 14/10-4 comes in, we could see reserves closer to the 250 million barrel zone and a share price back in the 5-6 zone. I am shocked that RKH's share price fell as far as it did.

Expect plenty of action in the shares of Desire Petroleum too whch is due to get the Ocean Guardian rig next. It was interesting that they rose 9% yesterday versus Rockhopper's 7% perhaps reflecting the seller that has been in the background for RKH over the last few weeks.

Adrenaline rush due that's for certain when the RNS does finally appear. Whether it'll start a heart attack is a different matter. No more Evian discoveries please!!

Rockhopper Looking good

Sea Lion
I know I said I probably wouldnt be able to blog this week on any specific news that filters through. However theres an awful lot of interest in Rockhoppers 14/10-4 appraisal well spudded on 19 February 2011. Its the first appraisal well to be drilled on the Sea Lion feature which is 100% owned and operated by Rockhopper.

And as you all know I am not a fan of the Falklands oil mania that usually breaks out every now and then. But of all the companys currently involved in the Falklands Rockyhopper are the most viable and successful.

Ive been speaking to many contacts re this latest drill and the news is that the RKH board are quietly confident of a succesful drill Now whether that equates to further oil in place in the appraisal well is open to debate. The well is located 2.3km away from the Sea Lion discovery in the southern lobe of the Sea Lion fan system.

14/10-4 is designed to investigate reservoir and hydrocarbon columns downdip of the Sea Lion 14/10-2 discovery well. The planned Target Depth of circa 3,000 metres will investigate the possibility of deeper sands than those encountered in the Sea Lion discovery well. The appraisal well is located 2.3km away from the Sea Lion discovery well, in the southern lobe of the Sea Lion fan system.

The drill has been progressing very smoothly and the whisper is that the feedback from operations/rig to the company has so far been ALL positive! If I was to be a betting man then Id say that the chance of success here is far higher than Sam Moody/company would have us believe.

The recent RNS announced that RKH had entered into an assignment agreement to secure three additional well slots on the Ocean Guardian drilling rig. Rockhopper intends to utilise these slots after Desire Petroleum completes drilling operations on its next well, which follows the appraisal well currently being drilled by Rockhopper. Rockhopper then went on to announce the new 3D seismic data to the south of the Sea Lion discovery well, on licence PL032, had been completed. The Company intends to fast track the processing of this data. It is anticipated that the resulting processed data will become available to the Company during July 2011.

Now heres a pointer for investors; of all the companys out there RKH are seen by the market as the most likely of the Falkland oil explorers to bring home the bacon. Why? Well its all down to their approach. RKH have approached each drill with an ever-increasing understanding of the Basin. They have done their homework! And they are continuing to research their oil plays even after the drills this gives them a deeper understanding of what is beneath and how to map out the oil system from the ever burgeoning seismic data.

Our understanding of the basin has advanced following the Sea Lion discovery, and will be further enhanced by our current appraisal operations, together with new seismic data. This information will be valuable in identifying our forward drilling programme.

They are approx two thirds of the way through the current appraisal well which is only a mile or so away from the Sea Lion discovery. Therell be no dust here ! Hydrocarbon shows will be encountered its the quantity and commerciality of those shows that is currently awaited. Fingers crossed!

My opinion. The sp will spike as news of hydrocarbon shows begins to leak next week.

Viva!

Daniel

This diurnal fluctuation is getting on my nerves!
Just when it looks as though RKH is going to achieve it's undoubted potential it slumps back down again - I'm just thankful I have so far resisted the temptation to buy another tranche.

cynic - 18 Mar 2011 10:53 - 4455 of 6294

sp isn't moving a lot in either direction, but for sure this next RNS has the smell of shit or bust, and hopefully not the former!

Bust isn't any good either unless you're thinking in female terms.

Looks good to me .....should send the sp higher...production should be higher than at the first discovery......

markymar - 21 Mar 2011 08:08 - 4461 of 6294

Filled to spill...................its huge

Balerboy - 21 Mar 2011 08:10 - 4462 of 6294

Seems market slow to rejoice.,.

required field - 21 Mar 2011 08:20 - 4464 of 6294

This could also mean than further east on RKH's patch,....more oil might be there to find....the odds are : that when oil is found in commercial quantities, more oil is there to be found !....how much is anybody's guess but somewhere out there, another sealion awaits perhaps !.

Balerboy - 21 Mar 2011 08:26 - 4465 of 6294

market says no.
