THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Tony Blair is visiting an Edinburgh hospital. He enters a ward full of
patients with no obvious sign of injury or illness and greets one. The
patient replies:
"Fair fa your honest sonsie face,
Great chieftain o' the puddin race,
Aboon them a you take your place,
Painch, tripe or thairm,
As langs my airm."

Blair is confused, so he just grins and moves on to the next patient.
The patient responds:
"Some hae meat and canna eat,
And some wad eat that want it,
But we hae meat and we can eat,
So let the Lord be thankit."

Even more confused, and his grin now rictus-like, the PM moves on to
the next patient, who immediately begins to chant: "We sleekit, cowerin,
timrous beasty, Thou needna start awa sae hastie, Wi bickering brattle."

Now seriously troubled, Blair turns to the accompanying doctor and asks
"What kind of facility is this? A mental ward?"
"No", replies the doctor. "This is the serious Burns unit."

A happy St Georges day to you all!!!
Spring is well and truly here. Blue skies, warm sun and yesterdays return to the cricket season, instead of that silly football nonsense.
We started the season in a less than traditional manner. We actually played, rather than sitting around watching the rain fall.
The game was somewhat more traditional, in that we got hammered. Next week sees a league match on Saturday and the first round of the cup on Sunday. Unfortuantely our South African signing will not be back from SA until the following week, so our bowling lacks a little something at the moment. Our SA is 6'7" and counts his bowling performance not in wickets, but in batsmens teeth, and I am so glad we signed him, and not some other team.
Lawns cut, borders weeded and now is snoozing and alcohol time.
Have fun.

Al
Such a romantic.

hewittalan6 - 23 Apr 2006 19:27 - 4504 of 81564

Feeling very poetic, Driver. I am a real lover of summer.
The sun on my back, the sound of leather on willow (occassionaly when we're batting) and a long cool Cuba Libre in my hand and all is well with the world.
There is something so romantic, so historic, so British, so..........right and proper about Cricket on the village green.
And lets face it, a game that stops for tea and scones has got to be civilized.

Some logic is simply inescapable.

bosley - 26 Apr 2006 19:28 - 4513 of 81564

i feel sorry for anyone holding shares in high street retailers. just been to the trafford centre and the vast majority of shops have big sales on which cannot be good for margin. add to that the distinct lack of people with shopping bags and the picture becomes a bit grim. car firms closing down or reducing labour, big redundances announced ....... start of a recession or just a bit of a bad time?

hewittalan6 - 26 Apr 2006 19:39 - 4514 of 81564

I feel sorry for anyone who has to go shopping!!!

explosive - 26 Apr 2006 20:09 - 4515 of 81564

I agree with Alan, however todays problems all stem from an over populated country. One day the government will wake up and figure, less people lower NHS bills, less people less demand for fuel, lower house prices less crime!! OK I know the logic is simple and its a little more complicated than this but hey lets be real about the cause before trying to tackle the problem....

moneyplus - 26 Apr 2006 20:32 - 4516 of 81564

total waste of space this lot-they'll never wake up we are expected to listen to their preaching and believe it all! lower taxes results in a higher gov. take as people would not try to avoid it--the black economy is all that's flourishing thanks to Bliar and Brown. I think we're on the verge of recession and if the housing market continues to drop--we'll be in one!!
