Australia's Hardman: Tiof Oil To Be Declared Commercial

PERTH (Dow Jones)--Australia's Hardman Resources Ltd. (HDR.AU) said Thursday that partner Woodside Petroleum Ltd. (WPL.AU) may declare its one billion barrel Tiof oil field offshore Mauritania "commercial" next month.

The effective go-ahead for Tiof - although subject to a final investment decision by the partners - is expected in August or September, Hardman chief executive Simon Potter told journalists.

In a further boost for the West African venture, Potter said that the US$625 million Chinguetti development may start pumping oil sooner than expected.

Chinguetti is around 80% complete and due to begin production in March. But Hardman has "increasing confidence that we'll start up earlier in the first quarter", Potter said.

With oil prices surging to around US$60/barrel in recent weeks, an early startup for Chinguetti would be a bonus for the Mauritanian partners after a recent cost blowout.

Woodside said in May that the cost of the 75,000 barrel of oil per day development may rise by as much as 10% because of higher-than-expected drilling costs.

Woodside is operator and owns 47.4% of Chinguetti. The other participants are Hardman with 19%, the Mauritanian government with 12%, U.K.-based BG Group PLC (BRG) with 10.2%, the Premier (PMO.LN) group of companies with 8.1% and Roc Oil Co. (ROC.AU) with 3.3%.

Discovered in 2003, Tiof will cost more to develop than nearby Chinguetti, mainly because of a greater number of development wells needed, Potter said.

In the case of Chinguetti, Woodside declared the field commercial in January 2004, prior to a final investment decision by the joint venture four months later.

Analysts believe around 30%-40% of Tiof's one billion barrels of oil in place may be recovered, depending on how well the field's individual reservoirs are connected.

A Woodside spokesman was not immediately available for comment on planning for Tiof.

Field Partner BG Group May Have M&A Aspirations

Turning to the upcoming Mauritannia exploration program, Potter said that the first well will target at least 130 million barrels of oil in the Sotto prospect.

But Woodside's estimate for Sotto may be a "little light", Potter said.

"Our technical view is that it is larger than what Woodside is saying," he said. Broker UBS has previously estimated the target size at 150-250 million barrels of oil.

Sotto-1, around 50 kilometers south of Chinguetti, is due to begin drilling July 31.

It is the first of a proposed six-well program this year that will also target the Colin and Espadon prospects.

Woodside and Hardman are hoping to rebuild confidence in the exploration upside at Mauritania, after a moderate program last year that returned three dry holes along with the Tevet discovery.

Potter said that potential predators are likely "running the ruler" over Hardman, attracted by the prospect of further exploration success and the looming startup of Chinguetti.

He declined to identify likely suitors, though market speculation earlier this year focused on BG Group, a minority partner in the Mauritania venture.

Any predators may have to factor in a rising share price for Hardman, Potter said.

"Once we've got an income stream (from Chinguetti), we'll definitely be re-rated," he said.

Hardman shares closed up two cents at A$2.36, valuing the Australian company at A$1.55 billion.

Nice to see you array of stock, I am little different ever, I have some cash with which I am waiting for the price of oil to drop enough to make it worth buying some more stck, but I am not too worried if it dosen't.

Apart from that I am really pleased with what is going on here, it's a long haul but it is again paying off with grand prospects.

actually if you like prawns i have the BEST simplest meal of all time:

loads of raw prawns and scallops (and mussels even)
1 red onion
2 cloves+ of garlic
8 organic tomatoes
half tin of tomatoes
couple of teaspoons of tomatoe puree
massive handful of coriander

ok:

use a la cruset (sp!) casserole dish

heat up the onion and garlic in a few tablespoons of oil for a few minutes

add the raw seafood for a couple of minutes (smells amazing right!) plus a bit of pepper

then add the raw (skinned and chopped) tomatoes, give a good stir for a couple of minutes

add the tin (half) and some puree

reduce for maybe 5-7 minutes bubbling away.

just as you are about to serve stir in the coriander, add some pepper and cover. take to the table and wow the family with what must be one of the easiest and quickest dishes of all time.

serve with white crusty bread or rice

by the way tastes even better the next day.

Hardman shares were suspended in Oz last night for a while, and then he issued a retraction concerning Tiof.

He is looking for the culprit who posted it on Moneyam, and I gave him your name.

He's coming round later to err..... Persuade you not to post him in an immature light again.
