Analysts at Jefferies have cut their fourth-quarter sales growth forecasts for Next to 4 per cent compared to a year ago from earlier estimates of 7.6 per cent, and the City expects third-quarter like-for-like sales at Marks & Spencer's general merchandise arm to fall by around 2 per cent, following a 1.9 per cent drop in the previous three months

NXT has suffered along with the rest of the market and retailers, but it has a record of surprising investors for the better, so some investigation prior to 5th is warranted
actually, it may be too late as i think 5th is the first trading in london after this long break

I do not for one minute think any of the store buyers would have got the buying correct for the kind of winter we are experiencing at present. Ie the extremely mild conditions from October until now. A lot of stores have been left with the likes of thick woollens/jumpers etc, heavy winter coats. Witnessed heavy discounting today of these items in town. Interesting if buyers will buy coats if we have a sudden chill in the weather. Would not like to be a stores buyer this year with the weather being so strange. Perhaps thinking about it, rain macs and welly boots have done well.

StockMarketWire.com
Next said with good control of margins, costs and stock, along with healthy clearance rates means it expects FY profits to remain within the guided range of GBP810m-GBP845m.
"Our revised central forecast for full year Group Profit is now GBP817m, though this might increase or decrease by GBP7m depending on trade in January. GBP817m would represent an increase of +4.4% on last year."
It said full-price sales rose 3.7% in year to Jan. 2, but were up 0.4% in the period Oct. 26-Dec. 24 2015. The annual figure was below Next's previous guidance of +4.0% to +6.0%.
Next said it did not discount stock at any time prior to its End of Season Sale, meaning gross margins were maintained.
"Stock for the End of Season Sale was -7% lower than last year and clearance rates are broadly in line with last year," the company said in a statement.
Next Retail sales were up 2.1% in the year to Jan. 2, 2016, but down 0.5% in the Oct. 26-Dec. 24 2015 period. Next Director sales were up 6.1% in the 12-month period, and up 2.0% in the shorter period.
"We believe that the disappointing performance in the fourth quarter was mainly down to the unusually warm weather in November and December.
"The graph below shows the correlation between our sales performance and the year-on-year difference in temperature during the second half.
"The blue line shows the difference between the temperature this year and last, the bars show the sales growth for the NEXT Brand.
"Whilst warm weather may have been the main reason for a difficult fourth quarter, we would not want to allow difficult trading conditions to mask any mistakes and challenges faced by the business.
"Specifically, we believe that NEXT Directory's disappointing sales were compounded by poor stock availability from October onwards. In addition, the online competitive environment is getting tougher as industry-wide service propositions catch up with the NEXT Directory."
