THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

There it is.

hewittalan6 - 05 Jun 2006 09:32 - 4661 of 81564

You got it mate. it is the Jonathan Palmer day.
I've only heard good reports and that unlike many of these type of days, there really is no limit. You are positively encouraged to go as fast as you dare, cos the tracks are totally safe, no matter how far you spin off.
The JP1 is the bit i am really looking forward to as well. Jeremy Clarkson reckons it is completely peerless and has never been bettered by any other race car.
Wow.

jimmy b - 05 Jun 2006 09:39 - 4662 of 81564

Al JP was a doctor before he drove F1 ,(in Brighton) ,my sister worked for him ..
The bit about the track being totally safe how ever fast you spin off i'm not so sure about ,i'm just going out to get a get well soon card ,,now whats the address for Bedford General ,A and E unit i think.

LoL.
The Mrs is coming along and we are having bets about her hanging her handbag on the gear lever, and looking for the indicators.
on the sweep we are running for her top speed I've drawn 45mph. I fancy my chances actually.

WOW.
And I really do mean WOW.
I am still high on adrenalin, and my arse has spent the day twitching like a rabbits nose, but WOW.
Jimmy, save, borrow, steal, do whatever, but do it.
About 650 per person but WOW.
The instructors really do push you WAY beyond what you would do on your own.
I saw more spin offs today than a Sky TV executive.
I've even had piccies e-mailed to me already and I would put 'em on here, but I don't know how!!
In summary. WOW.

Just looking back over my memorabilia from yesterday and the highlight is the pit computer print off from my best lap in the Formula Palmer-Audi single seater.
Tight circuit and you are totally on your own. No instructor, no intercom, just your own abilities and a race prepared super fast piece of metal.
The print out shows speed, engine speed, throttle depression and gear selection as a graph around the circuit and is overlaid on the best lap achieved in an identical car by Justin Wilson, Formula One driver.
Our traces are almost identical on speed, though his is higher than mine and he achieved an average 109.7 MPH. I got an average 96.9MPH round the track, so I was within 11 MPH of a world class professional driver!!
How satisfying is that?
I could go on for days, and bore you all senseless.
Alan

bosley - 07 Jun 2006 09:01 - 4678 of 81564

and you probably will ....... :))

sounds like a fun day out.

partridge - 07 Jun 2006 11:12 - 4679 of 81564

Brings back the memories Alan. Scariest moments I had after similar day at Silverstone 15 years or so ago was on the drive back home - kept having the urge to overtake on blind bends. Still have the overalls they handed out on the day, albiet now patched up after I accidentally fell into the pit in the garage last year!
