SKIL Ports & Logistics (SPL)

Juzzle - 03 Jan 2013 08:39

Highly speculative. A gamble that relies on faith in directors doing what they boast they can do. Building a port on India's west coast on an inlet where they plan to construct a manmade island structure just offshore with short bridge links to it.

On a longterm chart this looks just like one of the many previous upkicks within what - each time - turned out to be an ongoing downtrend. Is it different this time?? Has it finally bottomed?

Photographs that we've now seen (if genuine) suggest that things are at last happening on site.

This new batch of progress photos posted by PJ1 an hour ago has triggered sharp upward movement in the share price:

Karanja port update

Juzzle - 17 Feb 2015 16:45 - 49 of 102

Up 19% today. That's nice. 76% up from its low of Nov 26.

The original investors considered the company to be worth over £100m - and that was based on a port project that still required various permissions and approvals which might not have been forthcoming. After very long delays those have now been granted and construction is at last under way, with a constant stream of tipper trucks coming and going every day.

PGV4 - 19 Feb 2015 10:07 - 51 of 102

I am enjoying the ride now.
Juzzle when is it supposed to be an operational port?

Juzzle - 19 Feb 2015 11:07 - 52 of 102

PGV4 - the only dates previously given in company statements are irrelevant after such lengthy delays in getting started. My guess is that some token use of the east quay mightll occur before the end of this year - by when the construction traffic should be using the second access road, and this first road will be open for very limited business. I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if any serious port activity is generating income before Easter 2016. But the promise of that, and of full use by e/o 2016, if evidenced by apparent progress, should be enough to continue driving the share price between now and then. One concern is over what additional funding might be required and when.

Unusually high volume underlying today's firm rise.

Juzzle - 04 Mar 2015 19:40 - 54 of 102

Posters on other bulletin boards have obtained and displayed numerous photos in the past two weeks, showing hundreds of trucks busily streaming to and from site in a nose-to-tail convoy, tipping material being levelled at a rapid pace now as the contractor plays catchup in building the port at last.

Pictures taken this week, looking back towards land, from the port area being built offshore. Trucks seen in Image 7 are on the road linking port to shore.

Port is basically a rectangular manmade island 1.0km wide being built just offshore, with two roads linking it to shore (one recently built, one later).

Share price has doubled in 14 weeks since bouncing of its alltime low in November.
Seems people are at last convinced that serious progress is happening on site.

EDIT (April): But fell back on news that work is hindered by local protestors.

Saudi money heading for India. Presumably other such funds that follow will include stakes in ports and other key infrastructure areas..

The company website has been updated (see News page) with images of apparent progress. Block paving in place and some gantry steels being assembled.

EDIT: Scrutiny by posters on other bulletin boards has revealed that these photos are NOT from the port site, but are from the contractors compound 2km from the site. Such misrepresentation does not bode well. So, as ever, have good defences in place on any holdings.

And I thought it would be finished by now?

Juzzle - 17 Jan 2013 13:53 - 21 of 57
Halifax - with construction commencing during current quarter, port is expected to be operational by the middle of 2014. Where is your 2020 from?

Juzzle - 18 Nov 2015 08:16 - 59 of 102

New progress pictures have been added to the company website NEWS page this morning

Juzzle - 18 Nov 2015 13:57 - 60 of 102

Share price currently up more than 11% today - 40% up from its last low in August. Perhaps investors are finally believing that construction is progressing, following this morning's release of site photos.

Juzzle - 26 Nov 2015 11:21 - 61 of 102

The company got a very positive mention on Share Radio yesterday. In the latter part of the broadcast.

mitzy - 26 Nov 2015 11:24 - 62 of 102

Spread <2%.

cynic - 26 Nov 2015 11:59 - 63 of 102

for those brave enough to buy stocks direct in this and any other emerging or similar market, note well the tiny volume traded

PGV4 - 26 Nov 2015 15:50 - 64 of 102

Here we go, up up and away. Bye bye cynic.

cynic - 26 Nov 2015 16:57 - 65 of 102

not at all ...... i dare say my JPM fund holds some, and that is the only way i'll play emerging markets

worth noting that barely £60,000 (108,229 shares) changed hands today

Juzzle - 26 Nov 2015 17:27 - 66 of 102

House broker Cenkos reportedly taking a group of institutional investors to see the site soon. Which presumably indicates there will by then be something more than a heap of dirt to look at.
