Is ZOO Digital breaking out?? (ZOO)

soul traders - 05 Dec 2006 14:57

Just dived in for a small punt on ZOO as it has shot up some 40% today.

Interim results are due out on 14th Dec 2006 and clearly somebody thinks they could be good.

It looks as if there's a turnaround on the cards, but anyway, don't take my word for it.

Here's a nice chart - judge for yourselves:

Chart.aspx?Provider=EODIntra&Code=ZOO&Si

EDIT: From the last financials; I think this statement gives a lot of grounds for hope, but WDIK:

( With credit to Bosley, his "XMAS" thread, - 05 Dec 2006 11:15 - 5 of 9)

"just been looking at zoo. they seem heavily involved with [interactive DVD], too. from last year's results.

"Interactive DVD

The interactive DVD market in the UK, pioneered by ZOO, has demonstrated
significant growth in the past year. Around 30 titles in the category were introduced
prompting retailers including HMV, Virgin, WHSmith and Borders to dedicate
in-store shelf space to the genre for the first time. Collectively interactive
DVD titles sold around 3 million units over the Christmas 2005 period, of
which we estimate around 70% were produced using DVD-EXTRA STUDIO.

According to data reported in the British Video Association (BVA) Yearbook 2006,
interactive DVDs were responsible for a significant market share gain of the
'special interest' genre, up from 2.3% of volume in 2004 to 3.8% in 2005. Of the
top 20 special interest titles, 17 were interactive DVDs and of these 13 were
created using DVD-EXTRA STUDIO. These titles were hugely popular over Christmas
2005 and companies produced a whole range of products to meet demand, growing
the sub-genre by 100% in the year. The best seller in the special interest
category was 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire? 3' developed by ZOO Interactive Video
and published by Universal with 344,000 units sold, making it the 14th best
selling UK DVD overall in December 2005. In the first half of 2006 this product
has sold through a further 71,000 units bringing its total volume sales to
415,000.

A particularly impressive performance was shown by the title 'Now That's What I
Call a Music Quiz' published by EMI/Universal, selling over 410,000 units in
December 2005 and making this title the best seller in the 'music' category for
the year demonstrating the significant revenue and profit potential of interactive
DVD to music publishers.

The UK interactive DVD market is showing further significant growth in 2006 in
terms of the number of new titles in development. We expect there to be over a
hundred titles available over the Christmas period of which we estimate around
half will be created using DVD-EXTRA STUDIO.

New licensees are being added on an on-going basis; in North America new
agreements with Scholastic Media, Brighter Minds Media and Endless Games for
products that use ZOOtech's technology for new interactive DVDs will produce a
broad range of new titles based on popular television, film and book properties.
In Europe further licenses have been agreed with Vivid Imaginations Ltd, Big Red
Frog, Silenn and Compedia. ZOOtech has also signed its first developer and
publisher contracts in Italy with Cinehollywood, demonstrating the continued
expansion and growth in the market for interactive DVDs across multiple
territories. These additions contribute to a robust publishing schedule for 2006
and 2007 across a number of DVD game categories.

ZOO Interactive Video Ltd ('ZIV')

ZIV is focused on the development of interactive DVD titles and partners with
publishers to provide the channel for its products in the market. ZIV's efforts
have been responsible for the establishment of the interactive DVD category at
retail, with dedicated point-of-sale areas appearing for the first time in
December 2005. In the year four new titles were developed by ZIV: 'Who Wants to
be a Millionaire? 3', 'Wallace & Gromit DVD Game', 'Telly Addicts' and
'Interactive Championship Challenge 2', which were published by Universal Pictures
across eight territories including UK, France, Germany and Japan.

At the DVD Association Excellence Awards held in May 2006, ZIV received six
awards including two for technical achievement and one for children's DVD
excellence. The British Video Association presented ZIV with three Retail
Performance Awards for 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire? 3', 'Telly Addicts' and
'Wallace & Gromit DVD Game'.

ZIV is increasing its output for Christmas 2006 to seven titles which will be
published by Universal Pictures and 2 Entertain Ltd. ZIV's strategy is to grow
the interactive DVD market through the development of premium branded titles for
trivia as well as non-quiz genres, and its products rank amongst the most
sophisticated in the market." ENDS

A pleasure as always, MP. I am sure my gambling streak got the better of me when I bought these, but looking at the chart and the last financial results the winds of change seem to be blowing. Prospects are possibly better than Bright Things (BGT), as ZOO seems to have a wider product offering and a more established customer base and commercialisation of products.

In the worst case I'll just have to hold for a year or two before realising any gains :o)

Header edited to include extract from last results. Credit to Bosley for posting it on his thread.

Also in ZOO's favour is that the directors put a huge amount of their own funds into the placing shares and convertible bonds.

hlyeo98 - 06 Dec 2006 12:27 - 8 of 55

Down 10% today

cynic - 06 Dec 2006 14:10 - 9 of 55

soul traders - 06 Dec 2006 14:44 - 10 of 55

Sorry, Cynic, seems I need to renew my subscription to Gamblers Anonymous!

soul traders - 06 Dec 2006 14:45 - 11 of 55

Hoewver, if it does go stellar you'll be jealous!

cynic - 06 Dec 2006 14:46 - 12 of 55

not at all ...... but company is basically rubbish ...... see its history

soul traders - 06 Dec 2006 14:53 - 13 of 55

Agreed the history is not up to much, but there seems to be the possibility of a turnaround, and that's the reason I bought. We shall see.

cynic - 06 Dec 2006 15:08 - 14 of 55

cynic blows soul* a very large raspberry!

soul traders - 06 Dec 2006 15:28 - 15 of 55

soul traders - 06 Dec 2006 15:37 - 17 of 55

Loose sphincter? that's what the stress of all those highly-leveraged CFD's will do to you . . . .

cynic - 06 Dec 2006 16:06 - 18 of 55

certainly true on occasion, though am glad to say that am currently running a good tight shi*!

bosley - 06 Dec 2006 19:06 - 19 of 55

very surprised there wasn't any news today. difficult to explain yesterday's rise without news.

soul traders - 07 Dec 2006 09:06 - 20 of 55

Small investor panic??!!!?? :o)

soul traders - 07 Dec 2006 11:15 - 21 of 55

A bit of a recovery today, on teeny-tiny turnover of about 9,000 shares: ZOO Bid: 65p Offer: 72p Change: 4

Bosley, I think the reason for the rise the other day is that some are sniffing the possibility of a turnaround, as I argued previously.

Results in a week will soon put us in the picture; it will be either a Christmas gift or a Yuletide turkey :o)

EDIT: Given the deals with Walt Disney, etc, I think the co is pushing at least some of the right buttons, but all IMO, PDYOR, etc.

soul traders - 07 Dec 2006 14:35 - 22 of 55

looking even better this afternoon:

ZOO Bid: 70p Offer: 75p Change: 8

moneyplus - 07 Dec 2006 15:46 - 23 of 55

Outlook

After a period of restructuring, ZOO has established a sound platform for
growth. The Board is currently considering strategic options to maximise this
growth. Trading in the short term is heavily reliant on iDVD sales over the
Christmas period, but recurring revenue streams are increasing, providing
greater predictability for future years.

ZOO's success hinges on the talent of its employees and managers responsible for
the creation and exploitation of its world class intellectual properties. The
Directors would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to all staff for
their contribution and commitment.
