THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Just got back from a round of golf and I am knackered!!
15th hole. 400 yard par 4, and from tee to green it is up a hill so steep mountain goats have to be roped together for safety.
thats my excuse for being crap anyway.

it wasn't the heaton park course that you played, was it? they give you sherpas there instead of caddies.

hewittalan6 - 07 Aug 2006 22:58 - 5044 of 81564

Nah. Middleton park in Leeds.
Little municipal course, but the 15th is fondly known as "Angina Hill".

?

hewittalan6 - 10 Aug 2006 08:42 - 5052 of 81564

Nothing to get excited about, bos. Its only a very posh menu.

I'm not normally one to get serious on this much respected thread, but a huge round of appreciation for our anti-terrorist boys (and girls), following this mornings news. They do a difficult and dangerous job, and if reports are true, they have won a major victory for which we should all be grateful.

Damn quiet on these threads......

You could almost hear a pin drop.

hewittalan6 - 10 Aug 2006 09:13 - 5054 of 81564

Morning, Bos.
Re our discussion on Golden Crosses;
The golden cross did occur on HYC, as predicted, and was followed by.........(pause for effect and drum roll)..........the share price suddnenly stopping its meteoric rise!!
Methinks either I don't understand the nature of the golden cross, or typically, my stock is the exception that proves the rule.
Ho-hum.

Couldn't agree more, Al, regarding the police and their splendid success in foiling the terrorist bomb plot. Hopefully this and the accompanying 25 arrests will send a signal to the terrorists that our securtiy forces are well-equipped to deal with this kind of threat.

Bos, I've been trying to get hold of a copy of that film for ages - where did you find it?

Just one thing - I'll need it in Betamax format if that's ok.

bosley - 10 Aug 2006 13:23 - 5057 of 81564

blimey, alan, give it a chance!! soul, i wouldn't bother. it was crap.

been having a little debate with myself all morning. if i was due to go to america today/tomorrow, would i still go in light of this morning's events? to not go means the bastards have won and that shouldn't be allowed to happen, but, would you really put your family at risk just to prove a point???

ps, apologies for lowering the tone

hewittalan6 - 10 Aug 2006 13:31 - 5058 of 81564

The wife and kids flew to meet me in the middle east a week or two after 9/11. She did it on the basis that they would know nothing about it and everyone would go together!! ('cept me).
You all know my thoughts on the good ol' US of A, so the prospect of setting off for america and not actually getting there does have its upside (just).
The other thing is the thought of spending the rest of my life on an aeroplane is just horrendous. the fact that the rest of my life would be measured in minutes is little comfort.

Bos, it won't help with the moral side of the debate, but I once had a lecturer at Uni who insisted on visiting tourist destinations (Egypt, at the time) right after news of some terrorist atrocity because firstly travel and accomm were cheap and secondly you wouldn't be fighting thousands of other tourists to get to the attractions.

My view is that security is never higher at airports, etc., than in the couple of days directly after an attack, so it's quite possible that you and the Boslets couldn't be safer.

PS I won't hear that about "Happy Ever After". My local takeaway owner has watched it 27 times.

bosley - 10 Aug 2006 16:05 - 5060 of 81564

soul, it all worked out quite well in the end :))

hewittalan6 - 10 Aug 2006 16:21 - 5061 of 81564

Just heard that John Terry is to take over David Beckhams role in the England team.
Does that mean he has to start playing crap and missing penalties?
Shame. Good player, john terry.
