PayPoint welcomes NLC's provisional decision
PayPoint welcomes the provisional decision to reject Camelot's
proposal to offer Ancillary Activities
PayPoint plc ("PayPoint") welcomes the National Lottery Commission's
announcement this morning of its provisional decision to reject Camelot's plan
to offer ancillary activities, including mobile top ups, bill payments and other
services, through its terminals.
Dominic Taylor, Chief Executive of PayPoint, said: "This is a victory for local
shops, including sub- post offices, whose earnings and footfall would be
undermined by this proposal. Today's decision should protect vulnerable people
from the increased temptation to gamble.
"It would be entirely wrong if Camelot were to be allowed to exploit its
monopoly position, and we are pleased that the National Lottery Commission has
accepted the compelling arguments that the proposal would have distorted
competition in the bill payments sector."

Interesting to see how Directors view retail shareholders - they can buy at 1p (recent News=Options), and sell at 23p DYOR.
I'm not sure I like this level of profiteering and presume they can't wait to offload stock when (we) -the idiot public - is will to pay so dearly for paper they can get for little more than by just turning up. Grr!

Monitise Supports U.S. Bank's Contactless Payment Pilot
"A contactless payment service which allows shoppers to purchase products in stores using their mobile phone handset is being trialled in America using innovative technology from Monitise, the UK-based leader in global mobile banking and payments.
Employees of U.S. Bank, the fifth largest bank in America, are testing the system which allows people to pay for products simply by waving their mobile phone handset over the contactless payment terminal at the shopping register.
A microSD equipped with a chip that securely stores one's credit or debit details is inserted in a mobile device and is read by the terminal. For iPhones, the microSD can be embedded into a specially-designed and patented iPhone case. The payment capable microSD and iPhone case are the product of US-based DeviceFidelity.
The contactless payments system is password protected and can be immediately disabled by the bank in the event the device is lost or stolen.
The pilot brings together Monitise's expertise in mobile financial services apps with DeviceFidelity's In2Pay microSD memory card and Visa's payWave contactless transactions technology."

Monitise to Bring Mobile Payments to Nigeria
Monitise welcomes the news that the Central Bank of Nigeria has granted a provisional licence to the company and its partners to introduce payments by mobile phone across the country.
The move will see Monitise, an established Visa partner, utilising its proven Globe platform, to offer financial services over the mobile phone to the unbanked. The service will also see the first deployment of the Monitise Mobile Wallet solution.
Monitise is delighted to have the opportunity to work with local partners to enable anyone in Nigeria with a mobile handset to access financial services.
The project will be in part enabled by the US $1.5m of development funding made by the Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund to Monitise in 2009.
Monitise's technology enables users to securely manage their money on their mobile phones and take advantage of a number of services including:
Adding money to their handset's mobile wallet or making withdrawals at a countrywide network of processing agents
Transferring money to other people or organisations over the handset
Obtaining their balances via SMS text alerts
Future services will include savings, insurance and pensions
Lee Cameron, Chief Commercial Officer of Monitise, said: "In conjunction with our local partners, we are delighted to be able to offer Monitise's technology in to this well regulated environment, empowering the millions of Nigerians who cannot access, or simply do not have, a conventional bank account - what we know as the 'unbanked' - to enjoy the security and benefits of inclusion within the financial world.
"We are committed to bringing the latest developments in mobile money management and payments to the unbanked across not just Africa but India and South East Asia as well."
Prateek Shrivastava, Managing Director of Monitise Africa, said: "Of Nigeria's 149 million strong population, 19 million have bank accounts, but 75 million have mobile phones - which amply illustrates the potential of mobile payments services across the country."
The first phase of the Monitise service will be launched in 2011 directly to consumers. In parallel the service will also be offered on a white label basis to the country's banks and financial service providers.

Monitise Launches its First Mobile Money Android Apps
Monitise plc (LSE: MONI.L), today announces the launch in the US of its first mobile money apps for Android handsets. The apps use the company's market proven Globe technology platform to offer a range of fast and convenient services to users, including account balance inquiries, mini-statements, money transfer and bill payment.
Android handsets now make up more than a quarter of the US smartphone market[1]. The new apps complement the existing suite of text, secure browser and smartphone -- iPhone, Blackberry and mobile web -- services provided in the US by Monitise.
"Apps offered through Android marketplace provide the kind of excellent customer experience which Monitise software delivers so well. So developing dedicated apps for the many different types of Android handsets was a logical step for us," said Monitise Chief Executive Alastair Lukies.
"These new Android apps bring fast and convenient financial control to more of our bank clients' customers and through a wider variety of handsets. Our Monitise Globe platform is designed to allow our financial institution partners to provide the services that their customers demand, across the full range of mobile phone types."
Lukies added: "Security continues to be key to our approach, which is why we count more than 250 financial institutions among our clients for secure mobile money services and have more than three million users of our mobile money services around the world."
