Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Not at all, but it is also the USA that will still be the biggest oil user in 2017, followed by China which is tipped to increase its use by far a bigger percentage than the USA, not forgetting the new powerhouse of India.

Oil use.
1 United States: 18,690,000 bbl/day 2009
2 China: 8,200,000 bbl/day 2009
3 Japan: 4,363,000 bbl/day 2009
4 India: 2,980,000 bbl/day 2009
5 Russia: 2,740,000 bbl/day 2010

Top producers
Saudi Arabia
Russia
United States
Iran
China

The biggest fear to any oil investor, explorer or producer must surely be new technology that will eventually do away with oil as a fuel, but that is at least a few decades away.

herm take it as you may, we like reality not fiction.at the moment the media is making up so many ridiculous scenarios we are sick of their lies and unaccountability.

greekman - 14 Sep 2011 17:14 - 5237 of 6294

The USA consumes 18,690,000 barrels per day.
The USA produces 10,400,000 barrels of oil per day.

So to be self sufficient they have a long way to go.

greek you seem to have forgotten gas production.

HARRYCAT - 14 Sep 2011 17:16 - 5239 of 6294

Laser fusion will render all other forms of energy generation obsolete; possibly not by 2016, but .............we may not need RKH oil at all ;o)

On a more serious note, if anyone had stated that they thought the sp would finish the day 10p down after todays well result, he would have been declared, 'stark raving bonkers'.
I hope Casper, Johnson and Kermit are not as big as Sea Lion, as if they are our shares will probably be worth zilch.
I have never see any share defy logic as much as this one.

greek the bail out by BHP/BLT casts doubt on whether RKH and others can attract big names to develop and finance oil finds in this part of the world even ignoring the political risk.

greekman - 14 Sep 2011 17:32 - 5246 of 6294

Remember that Shell had these licenses years ago and bailed out.
Says a lot doesn't it.

halifax - 14 Sep 2011 17:34 - 5247 of 6294

greek what it may say is shell considered the risk reward ratio was not acceptable.
