The news that M&S are to sack around 1,000 employess seems to be pretty widespread today. Sky News said that many staff have been informed that the jobs cuts will be announced tomorrow.

thoroughly agree ...... and i think advertising (WPP) is in for an even more torrid time, especially with digital advertising taking huge chunks out of the "traditional" market

That would then have a knock on effect on the commercial TV companies as advertising revenue dries up.

Tabby
If you truely believe the FTSE will be 3600-3700 by May then I would expect you to be selling all your stocks with a view to buying back later at a lower price. Is that the plan?
tabasco - 06 Jan 2009 10:18 - 533 of 548
CynicI completely agree with youMarks will imho have a reasonably good January and although our company shares are locked in I will be trading our other shares later this monthftse to hit 3600-3700 by May is my guessthere you go cynic that surprised you!

Marks and Spencer plans to close 25 of its small Simply Food stores and another two of its normal stores.

CynicI dont disagree with you for the hell of it.your assessment of wpp is spot on imhoI was told from someone that knows last year that it would end 08 @ 3.and much lower this yearhe cant understand the current sp and neither can I. I have noticed your view on this company a number of times and have always agreed.I say it how I believe itirrespective of what the groovy gang think

The key items are
"UK like for like sales down 7.1%; General Merchandise -8.9%".
Most of M&S stock made abroad and costs will rise now due to weak pound, cutting margins even more. It can't be long before MKS take a dive.
