With video search set to be the next big growth area BLNX have the software the likes of Microsoft, Google and NewsCorp would love to have.

In fact BLNX have done deals with most of these, the most recent being the UtargetFox deal which has been reported in the USA but not RNS'd in the UK.

Probably right.

First of all, the two investment houses said they had not changed what they were doing which was obviously "shorting" and he never said what he was paid.

Then Edelman says "HE" is not invested in Blinkx, but what about his father, mother, brothers and sisters and "old uncle tom cobley and all" whom he probably told to "get on".

No matter, he would have been far richer if he had got on board the Facebook train.

I’ve been really puzzled by Edelman’s insistence on attacking Blinkx, demanding a point by point defence on what is insubstantial and flimsy evidence. Then it all fell into place; like so many people who post to search engine fora with complaints about results they have seen he thinks he’s the internet police with an idee fixe, on a one man crusade, mistaking what he dislikes as fraudulent.

Nothing else can explain his weird obsession with trashing the company whilst damaging his professional reputation. He’s in a hole and he keeps on digging.

We certainly know he has a crusade against Zango, and has been successful in bringing them to account. But - he’s not a coder, advertiser or publisher, so has no understanding of how this side of the internet really works. He also appears to eschew all forms of computer protection, in order to find evidence of wrongs, which puts him in the newbie user range.

He accuses Blinkx of adware (legal, if not lovely) and click fraud.

Adware is screened out by any half decent browser and totally blocked by any free anti virus programme. Anyone who finds adware on their computer will soon realise it’s the least of their problems - and totally their own fault. It’s like driving without insurance.

The Walmart example he gives does not fit that definition, neither is it deceptive as his example doesn’t force users to click, and finally, click-thru’s (I’ve been monitoring this as a publisher for 10 years) average, is at best for the most beguiling ads, 2%. All are tracked by the advertiser, publisher, ad agency and intermediary (in this case Blink). Edelman claimed to have encountered 40 examples, which would be below the average click-thru threshold. If they were less than perfectly targeted, no clicks. Walmart wouldn’t maintain their margins if they were so casual as to pay for “fraudulent” clicks.

Secondly, how does he know when a video ad becomes chargeable? Is it on click, on view or just for being on the page - that’s three different rates. The last option would be incredibly cheap and what the advertiser selected, in the knowledge that most runs wouldn't be seen.

Edelman can’t know the terms of individual contracts, and he certainly doesn’t know how Blinkx works.

Finally, as Blinkx makes its money from white labeled products how on earth has that research been conducted? There’s nothing on my sites to show I’m carrying Blinkx videos.

Blinkx have assured Blackrock, to their satisfaction, that they are not doing anything illegal or wrong. That’s fine by me, they’re making me money. If they are doing anything unappetising but legal I’m ok to live with it. Jimmy Wales (Wikipedia founder) made his fortune on trading and porn and he’s generally regarded as a white knight of the internet.

Unfortunately a lot of people have lost a lot of money because of Edelman’s blog post. He has conflated what he has found through his searches and dislikes with being being fraudulent.

Blinkx ‘buying opportunity’

Analysts have spotted a buying opportunity in Blinx, the video search group that on Thursday lost one third of its value after allegations about the way it generates advertising revenue.

‘As with any strongly performing, highly rated stock the group is susceptible to volatility and we view the share price movement as a buying opportunity’, said Numis analyst Paul Richards, noting Blinkx was the best performing UK media stock in 2013.

A US blogger published a report which raised concerns about the business model of Blinkx and was taken very seriously by markets. The company subsequently said it ‘strongly refutes the assertions made and conclusions drawn in the blog post’.
The company’s shares shifted a bit higher on Friday, to trade up 7% at 127p by mid-afternoon. Richards’ target price assumes an almost doubling of the shares, to 225p.

Blackrock has been its mayor shareholder and is Huge support from then, that seems a good vote of confidence.
