Still Waiting - 25 Jul 2008 23:22

Chart.aspx?Provider=EODIntra&Code=BLNX&S

With video search set to be the next big growth area BLNX have the software the likes of Microsoft, Google and NewsCorp would love to have.

In fact BLNX have done deals with most of these, the most recent being the UtargetFox deal which has been reported in the USA but not RNS'd in the UK.

Alexa rankings confirm the continued growth in usage as its viral effect spreads:-

The ITN RNS confirms blnx is the best in the market and is growing fast:-

Leading News Organization ITN Extends Advertising Deal with blinkx Based on Proven Campaign Success

blinkx Selected to Power Advertising across ITN Website and Syndication Partner Sites

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. - July 2, 2008 - blinkx, the world's largest and most advanced video search engine, today announced that it has won an extension contract that will augment the scope of its advertising partnership with ITN, one of the world's leading news and multimedia content companies. Under the terms of the new agreement, ITN will use AdHoc, blinkx's patented contextual advertising platform for online TV and video, to serve advertisements on the ITN website and its syndication partner sites, including Bebo.

Through AdHoc, ITN has already been effectively monetizing its premium news content on the blinkx.com network for over six months. During this time, ITN achieved a significantly better return, greater search volume, and higher monetization through blinkx than through other syndication partners.

AdHoc uses blinkx's patented speech-to-text transcription and visual analysis technology to understand video content more thoroughly and effectively than any other service today, and can therefore dynamically place the most pertinent advertising against it. The AdHoc platform offers media companies and advertisers a unique value proposition -- video advertising which combines the emotive power of TV promotion, with the relevance and utility of contextual search advertising.

The confluence of ITN's premium TV content, blinkx's extensive syndication network, and AdHoc's uniquely powerful targeting capabilities was a formula for success. By extending its partnership with blinkx, ITN aims to achieve similar returns by leveraging the AdHoc platform to deliver contextually relevant video advertising on its own website and across its distribution partner sites.

'We're thrilled to be broadening our relationship with ITN,' said Suranga Chandratillake, founder and CEO of blinkx. 'News content is one of the most popular categories of online video and there's clearly a tremendous opportunity for monetization. The success of our partnership with ITN is evidence that the blinkx AdHoc platform is a uniquely powerful solution for online video advertising today.'

'We've been delighted with the results of our partnership with blinkx and are looking forward to implementing the AdHoc technology on our site,' said Nicholas Wheeler, managing director, ITN On. 'blinkx AdHoc has proven that it can achieve significant monetization of our content, effective marketing for advertisers and, most importantly, a useful, non-disruptive experience for our audience.'

As a pioneer in video search technology, blinkx has built a reputation as the most effective way to search new forms of online content such as video. With more than 350 partners and 26 million hours of indexed video and audio content, including favorite TV moments, news clips, short documentaries, music videos, video blogs and more, blinkx uses advanced speech recognition technology to deliver results that are more accurate and reliable than standard metadata-based keyword searches.

As Blinkx only ever provided search for AOL then it was never advertisement revenue positive, not within core earnings Cynic so of little interest or impact to be honest.

cynic - 14 Feb 2014 10:12 - 5588 of 6187

exactly my point, even if i came at it from the wrong angle

Haystack - 14 Feb 2014 10:18 - 5589 of 6187

cynic

"surely AOL's move away from BLNX to U-Tube is relatively old"

No, AOL replied to me

"We made the switch from Blinkx to YouTube over the past month."

cynic - 14 Feb 2014 10:30 - 5590 of 6187

fine, but also read what shortie wrote which is surely more relevant, other than arguably some sentimental value ...... sp has already had the shit knocked out of it, primarily on sentiment, so unless some serious skeletons emerge, then sp at worst should do no more than drift back and forth

next week's figures and accompanying announcement will be the key, as much for what is said as for what is not

===============

ps - google as owners of u-tube and competitors to aol must be chuckling

Shortie - 14 Feb 2014 10:31 - 5591 of 6187

So AOL changed one search engine provider for another, big deal, who uses AOL for anything more than free email anyway.

Haystack - 14 Feb 2014 10:41 - 5592 of 6187

AOL is still big in the US. They have a video site calledd On AOL that is linked to from their main site, when you view a video.

"AOL On is the web's largest curated library of premium video, and the home of AOL Originals."

http://on.aol.com/

There is also advertising on their videos

goldfinger - 14 Feb 2014 10:47 - 5593 of 6187

ohhhhhhhh come of it Hays..... AOL compared to past days are nothing now. I admit they were the the front runners in social media but through bad management arent even worth considering now ..........well unless you have a swedish nympho bird e-pal like me.

Haystack - 14 Feb 2014 10:51 - 5594 of 6187

True, they are not the force they once were. Interesting WHY they switched from Blinkx to YouTube over the last month irrespective of the revenue involved.

Coincidence?

Shortie - 14 Feb 2014 10:56 - 5595 of 6187

AOL's video collection though has nothing to do with its change of search engine provider... Blinkx needs to lose advertiser deals like Kelloggs to be revenue negative. If advertisers take their business elsewhere or scale back online spending then we'll see a hit to the bottom line.

goldfinger - 14 Feb 2014 10:57 - 5596 of 6187

Ask them.

Haystack - 14 Feb 2014 10:59 - 5597 of 6187

I doubt that you would necessarily get the real answer.

cynic - 14 Feb 2014 11:02 - 5598 of 6187

exactly so, and indeed it always amazes me that us companies are so free with semi-confidential info anyway

hays - just sit stumm and wait for the figures ....once they're out, and not before, you may have something meaningful to comment ... at the moment, you do not

Shortie - 14 Feb 2014 11:03 - 5599 of 6187

I would assume that the YouTube search engine is bigger and indexs more videos than Blinkx... Lets face it, the majority of public video uploads are to YouTube (let the world see) and Facebook (share with friends). I'd actualy never heard of Blinkx or knew what they did 6 weeks ago which says alot about their public profile..

Haystack - 14 Feb 2014 11:09 - 5600 of 6187

I doubt that the results will make much difference. Edelman did not dispute the good results. He even said they were double per capita of staff relative to competitors. He was complaining about the methods used to get the revenue. Good results won't change that. The damage has been done.

goldfinger - 14 Feb 2014 11:21 - 5601 of 6187

A few dodgy malpractices through advertising spend wont effect the market price here. Come the results its always down to the bottom line. The market is always wrong most of the time, if it werent you couldnt make money. Think about it. Its simplistic enough.

If it werent wrong we'd have a barter market. Or something like the old ofex market where matched trades were met.

Hays Im beginning to seriously think your not suited to this game.

Shortie - 14 Feb 2014 11:24 - 5602 of 6187

The results don't have to be good, they have to be bloody fantastic and able to keep market confidence that at 119p Blinkx is still worth 25 times earnings...! The results have to show the continued expansion of business and market... I think they will need to be talking about deals they attracted and advertising partnerships that potentially de-risk falls in revenue.... Are this board going to be up for the challenge and able to meet investors with charisma and passion, I wouldn't bet on it..

goldfinger - 14 Feb 2014 11:50 - 5603 of 6187

Their is talk on other boards my mate Evil K as reversed and gone long!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ill find out for holders we natter sundays and wednesdays.

required field - 14 Feb 2014 18:18 - 5604 of 6187

Good for him...

Haystack - 15 Feb 2014 06:19 - 5605 of 6187

Very interesting piece on Edelman. He may be a more serious problem for Blinkx. He doesn't look like he is going away very soon

Jeffrey Cohan, a portfolio manager at Ohanesian/Lecours Investment & Advisory Services in West Hartford, Connecticut, said Edelman should disclose the names of the investors, whether they were shorting the stock and when. Cohan and some of his clients own what he called “a small position” in Blinkx.

“If you don’t disclose it, it certainly looks and smells like there’s something more devious going on,” Cohan said. “Right now, as an investor, that’s what bothers me.”
