Frauds and Scams (SCAM)

axdpc - 20 Sep 2003 15:08

Reports of frauds, deceptions and scams keep appearing, weekly even daily, on
major news channels and newspapers. Some of these frauds seem just too big and remote to be of immediate, direct relevance to our daily lives. But, we will eventually pay for the consequences and damages, in taxes, costs of goods and services, regulations, copy-cats etc.

I hope we can collect, in one thread, frauds and scams, reported or heard. We must become more aware and more educated to guard against frauds and scams
which impact upon the health, well being, and wealth of ourselves and our families.

Thanks for your advice Kim and Exec. It seems that opening it on my iPad will not cause a problem, but I've learnt such a useful lesson!

ValueMax - 24 Sep 2016 15:09 - 577 of 631

George and Money AM team... will you be letting us know how the user data was taken, when and what is being done to stop it happening again?

I also agree with Aldwickk's point about a warning email to all affected users.

sharw - 28 Sep 2016 12:15 - 578 of 631

I did not open this (arrived this morning so this is still ongoing) but my email list shows the first few words of the message which began "Dear xx" where xx is my Christian name, not the screen name which you will see on this post.

Looking at 'my account' - 'contact details' I see both name and address are there (compulsory) as is a space for telephone numbers (not mine as this bit is not compulsory).

So whoever hacked the MoneyAM server obviously got that far. George and Money AM team - you should tell us exactly what data has been stolen.

I have just received this email that everyone is talking about and it has been deleted straight away, not good news these days.Any updates on how much data was breached ??

When I pressed the edit button on my earlier post a file dcadvert.php was downloaded onto my computer. Pressing the edit button again to check, it downloaded it again as dcadvert(1).php. What is going on? There have also been problems this week with the N buttons on the stockwatch page (first showing previous day now showing several days at once). I am beginning to wonder whether whoever hacked in and extracted the list of users left a few gremlins behind.

MoneyAM - you should call in NCC. (Disclosure - I hold shares in NCC!).

greekman - 28 Sep 2016 15:02 - 581 of 631

Perhaps the hackers can improve the site so it works!!!!!

kimoldfield - 28 Sep 2016 21:03 - 582 of 631

Greek, if only! I'd pay them!! Oh, hang on I'm already paying!!! I have probably lost more in the last couple of days than MAM takes in fees, all down to the loss of control by MAM. I have to qualify that, I haven't lost money, I just lost the opportunity to make it, which is why MAM exists for me as a day trader; it is essential I have a robust and reliable service. MAM has been the best and easiest site to use, is it now end game?

WOODIE - 29 Sep 2016 07:17 - 583 of 631

still no new update from Mam surely it is long overdue.

kimoldfield - 29 Sep 2016 08:45 - 585 of 631

jimmy b - 29 Sep 2016 08:48 - 586 of 631

It had a strange email address as well , i have dumped it , has it affected anyone's pc ?

kimoldfield - 29 Sep 2016 09:01 - 587 of 631

Don't know Jimmy, maybe MAM's own by the look of things!

ValueMax - 04 Oct 2016 01:02 - 588 of 631

Any further update on this, MoneyAM Team?

Have the police been informed of the hack?

sharw - 11 Oct 2016 17:47 - 589 of 631

Still waiting for someone from MoneyAM to tell us what they got hold of apart from names and email addresses. Ordinary addresses? Phone numbers?

WOODIE - 12 Oct 2016 14:48 - 590 of 631

its clear they do not want to give an explanation in public.

sharw - 11 Nov 2016 12:22 - 591 of 631

Yes WOODIE - now a month of deafening silence since your post. MoneyAM are obviously not willing to come clean on this.

ExecLine - 11 Nov 2016 14:09 - 592 of 631

it's got to be something to do with the abuse of the site's 'User HTML facilities' at that time, IMHO. That's why the big deal to alter them and get them tightened up.

My fiver says it was 'Addo' what done it. :-)

skinny - 11 Nov 2016 15:29 - 593 of 631

Yes it was

:-)

ExecLine - 11 Nov 2016 18:31 - 594 of 631

Skinny,

Are you serious?

Hmmm?

jimmy b - 12 Nov 2016 09:32 - 595 of 631
