Andy is correct - I was referring to a possible (probable) takeover of SEY. AMVESCAP hasn't built up such a large stake for fun and it would be impossible to offload it in the market under normal circumstances. They must be building it up to sell it on to a bidder. Harry has referred several times to a bid for SEY and is clearly open to offers. His latest mention of 'sector consolidation' came in the announcement of the preliminary results. Personally I don't think that SEY has got long for this world. October for a bid would do me fine as by then I will qualify for taper relief on the largest part of my holding.
FWIW I still see Woodside as the most likely culprit.

Have also been with this some time, started early 2001 with Fusion O & G and came to SEY with the bitter take over spat. More than happy with recent purchases sub 25p and also with SEY for the long haul. Question is, whether/when to return some of the proceeds to FDI for Groen results?

I'm not sure either, after the recent interim report, everything is riding on the Groen River, so that ups the stakes a fair bit IMO.

I am probably going to keep my SEY shares, and I may rotate funds from elsewhere into FDI nearer the time.

If you are in from 2001, you have maximum BATR, so that's one incentive to continue to hold.

I agree, Woodside would be a takeover candidate, and the two companies are together in the GOM as well as Mauritania.

Effectively SEY have said they are up for sale, but I would think they would want a higher price than 30p, especially as the directors have options.

Well we finished 1p up, one of the largest one day rises for SEy that I can recall!

Healthy volume too, a good sign when the price is rising.

I think you are going see bigger rises as the share price increases! Its certainly looking good, especially with uncertainy of oil supply in the world at moment pushing up the price of oil to all high time.

Well I certainly hope you're right about that.

For me the key issue is that SEY is a PRODUCER, generating hard cash and significant profits, and I think some of the more speculative money will move into producers as the price of oil increases.

Iran looks certain to end in confrontation sooner or later, and that could result in quite a period of uncertainty, which will be good for oil and gold, IMO.

Excellent write-up in Shares Magazine today as a Play of the Week. Strange then that the SP should dip first thing.
