Alkane Energy - Back to 100p (ALK)

Alkane Energy - Back to 100p
Says Zak Mir of Zaks-TA.com
The stock market is full of hyperbole, especially from tipsters. I chanced upon Alkane Energy today and my immediate reaction was that it is the best stock chart I have ever seen.

This may sound somewhat melodramatic, but I do not think that it is an exaggeration. As all traders know (including Nick Leeson if you are reading), the way to make real money is by betting the bank on the really big calls. That is the aim of my site. Nick, if you're still there, now is the time to go long of Alkane Energy - it has to be a better bet than a Nikkei arbitrage.

Although a chartist is fully allowed to ignore the fundamentals and look purely at the technicals, the fundamental background to Alkane is a company that declared losses of 284,000 pounds in its last set of results versus 20 million pounds in the previous year. This is a great recovery situation just in financial terms and the hopes of the bulls are carried in the form of a very extended base on the chart below 20p that was in place for nearly three years. The charting rule is that the longer the base, the bigger and more powerful the eventual breakout. This would imply that we are looking at the possibility of a full return to the highs seen at the start of the decade towards 100p.

Only an end of day close below the 10 week moving average on the weekly chart at 19p would even begin to cast doubt on the upside. The minimum expected target in the near term would be the 40 week moving average now running through 40p.

Hi belisce6

sorry, was out of the country.
Great questions and not easy to answer them all, think eggbert has done a good job. Just a few more thinks to consider:
Biogas on Farms: Is not new, but because of logistic, time and space farmers have not embraced Biogas. Easy to do with cow dung. Research is on the way to use Biogas for organic household waste. Cost there are in waste separation. Will the waste be heated or not, it makes a difference on the quality of gas produced.
concerning methane mining: with China and other countries having explosions in mines every year, the technology export is very important. Alkane have indicated that they have exported the technology to several countries, without giving more details. I would like to hear a lot more about this.

I also like the sound of Alkane, but would like the company to give more operational information and targets.
As you might know, Germany is leading in handing out alternative energy subsidies. Solar wins most at the moment with Wind following. Wind has quite a few critics and is loosing ground. Biogas is not that high on the list, but improving. UK should follow, if it wants to have any chance in reaching carbon emission levels it has indicated in reaching.

Very exciting field

hope this helps a little

ubs in as well now!

andysmith - 06 Sep 2005 21:42 - 62 of 377

I'm in as well, eventually taking advantage of a drop, hopefully!!!
Alternative energy, huge potential and based in my home town, worth a punt and at least 4 funds think so this month.

lizard - 12 Sep 2005 20:26 - 63 of 377

some positivity in sp would be good up to results?.

lizard - 15 Sep 2005 15:21 - 64 of 377

what do we think the results are going to be like?>

trigger - 22 Sep 2005 17:23 - 65 of 377

I'm new to the Alkane story and i like it very much. It sounds like it has great future potential for the mine gas operations both at home and internationally.
i see there was a mention of farm biogas earlier this month in the thread, this is also an interesting area. There is a company Agcert AGC that is already exploiting this.I'm not sure whether the alkane farm biogas plans are similar, but i think both companies are well worth watching, and could be good longterm growth stories.

eggbert - 23 Sep 2005 08:27 - 66 of 377

trigger,

welcome to the rollercoaster. This weeks statements were pretty positive. The next set seem to be the one's to look out for.

Pro2 weighted to second half.
Electricity prices set to keep rising. They are allready 3 times what they were.
New plant allready on-stream to take advantage of this.
Expect orders from around the world for containerized equipment.

One bad point was the biogas problem. But in good Alkane style, rite it off and look for new opertunities. This business is very new to the UK (not so some other countries) and will take time to grow.Maybe Alkane need some kind of partnership on this one.One for the future.

The comment on the German plant was a bit flat.I wonder if it is under performing a little.

I liked the comment about needing 300 wind turbines to offset the co2 what Alkane burns.A little stab at the government that still does'nt support this industry.

This share will rise past 50p and then continue to grow.

andysmith - 19 Oct 2005 21:29 - 72 of 377

Depends if further acquisition by one of the funds who were buying a couple of months ago but can now call a better shot on price OR Apax selling off more of their stock, bad day to do it if its Apax!!.
Its looking like top-up time considering the growth potential of Alkane.

cellby - 19 Oct 2005 23:08 - 73 of 377

i soldout at 32 hope to get in if theres a big drop from here . still haVe 14k shares all profit and my 20k shares slipup at 46

Keysersoze - 27 Oct 2005 14:36 - 74 of 377

Any ideas as to the sudden lack of interest in Alkane Energy it seems to be falling for no reason???

lizard - 27 Oct 2005 14:44 - 75 of 377

not a great time for energy sector- would expect better performance in winter months. we are now 50% off recent highs. hopefully we will get a base here and trade back to mid forties like last time although who knows?. potential still there but more mid long term.

Keysersoze - 27 Oct 2005 14:51 - 76 of 377

Thanks Lizard for putting my mind slightly more at ease as i bought again at 30 thinking this was the bottom just have to wait and see if the final results are as predicted if so the we should be back up to the 40+ area.

lizard - 27 Oct 2005 15:51 - 77 of 377

still very frustrating keysersoze- i am looking to increase holding but where to call the right level to buy is another matter?.
