Several years ago I was being assessed re continuation in my then present duty.
It was a hostage situation (simulated obviously). There were 3 bad guys with 10 hostages. I decided to have a bit of fun, ( big mistake).

I burst in shot everyone, hostages and bad guys.
My psychological assessor stopped the exercise and asked me what I was doing.
I informed him it was a new tactic I had thought of.

When word got out that we would shoot everyone, the bad guys would no longer take hostages as there would be no point.
I told him my philosophy was that in the long run it would save lives, IE ten now, none after. The trouble was he thought I was being serious, psychologist are like that.

I look back on it now and realize it was not funny. At the time, neither did he. I was asked! to leave the unit just after, can't think why.

However, the 7.62mm and 5.56mm rounds I mostly fired were definitely supersonic, as you could hear the "whipcrack" whenever one went overhead. A lot of 9mm rounds are produced in sub-sonic guise, so they have less chance of going through walls, etc., and killing unintended victims, e.g. when Greekman is busy spraying hot lead all over the place and shooting hostages.

Never made it to Bisley, but went to Bulford (somewhere in Wiltshire) and a few other places.

I think I have to agree with you.

On a serious note, when cars were less driver/passenger safe, IE no air bags, hard none give steering wheel, no seat belts, side protection zones etc, people were more wary of what might occur in a RTA.
The big problem now is drivers think they are invulnerable in the believed to be safety boxes they drive now days.

You should see the Germans, Greek. Not only "safe" but usually with about 250 bhp under the bonnet and the freedom to drive as fast as they like on the Autobahn.

I'm no old granny at the wheel, but some of the things I've seen on German motorways beggar belief.
