THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Now compare amd contrast with England.
A bunch of headless chickens.
I know it easy to blame the manager, but England played as if it were Brazil they were taking on. On a night where the back 4 could easily push forward and cause all sorts of problems, they hung back to protect the England goal. From what??
There was no direction to their play. They were rooted to their positions and showed no adventure (Gerrard apart).
The team looked frustarted and admitted to being so after the match, but how much of the frustration was down to being told to play so rigidly against a team that would struggle in the Coca Cola leagues.
A better team, while not ripping England apart, would have had no trouble strolling to victory. The selections are about right, the spirit and tactics are naive. There is a strong sense England being more concerned with not conceding rather than scoring and this may be fine against the worlds best, but Andorra???
You have bucketloads of talent in the team, Steve, let 'em use it.

alan, they won 3-0. the pressure from the media and fans made it a tougher night than it had to be. the priority is to qualify and england have got themselves back on track to do that. there isn't any point in changing manager now so it might be better for england if everyone backed off maclaren and let him get on with it. judge him next summer.
but, maybe you can answer the big question of the day. why is healy a world class striker for northern ireland and a stump for leeds? i noticed dennis wise was at the game, watching, maybe trying to figure it out ;)

hewittalan6 - 29 Mar 2007 09:46 - 5884 of 81564

Lord knows, bos.
When he pulls on that green shirt, he could kick a football through the eye of a needle from 40 yards. Put him in the Leeds shirt and he can't hit a cows arse with a banjo!!
He really did look the business again last night and in that kind of form, he should bag 30 a season in the championship!!
Perhaps its time for Wise to let him loose as a sole striker, with 5 across the middle supporting him because the only reason I can think of is that for ireland, everything ends at his feet, but for Leeds he is surrounded by numptys, wasting the chances.
Anyone who can really answer it should apply to Ken bates, becasue if Leeds go down, we will lose him. we will probably lose him anyway. There must be bigger clubs looking at him with envy.

What a glorious day!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even had the weather to give the old lawn tractor a bit of an airing.
Now to sit and enjoy a freshly cut garden. IMO, cut grass is one of the finest smells in the world.

Enjoy it while you can, alan ;)
If the big C enforcers get their way, it won't be long before you'll need a seat belt and an airbag and an MOT.
And one of those off lawn SORN thingies.

MightyMicro - 01 Apr 2007 16:47 - 5887 of 81564

April 1 can do that to a lawnmower . . .

bosley - 02 Apr 2007 01:01 - 5888 of 81564

one of the best things about taking 7 months to do the garden is that mud doesn't need mowing and mud is all i have at the moment :))

ptholden - 02 Apr 2007 01:30 - 5889 of 81564

I got a Wii this week.
You are all very unlikely to hear anything from me for several years as I test pilot it for the kids.

Same happened to me Al ,PS2 ,bought it for my son once and ended up mastering Colin Mcrae Rally ,took 6 months mind ,,then i found that when i was a little drunk my sector times went down so i bought an SAS game where you infiltrate the Iraq desert and blow things up ,now to get through that to the last stage took another 6 months, then it broke , still my son got good marks at school that year. Good luck .

hewittalan6 - 14 Apr 2007 21:51 - 5896 of 81564

I'm knackered Jimmy.
This thing is all about holding the controller and instead of pushing buttons, actually moving as you want the character to move.
Golf is superb fun and has improved my swing tremendously but the boxing has really taken it out of me.
Don't even ask about the tennis.
