no prob old bean; you called it right so plaudit deserved

meanwhile, ezj is plodding along ok too

jimmy b - 11 Nov 2014 10:13 - 603 of 832

And i took a nice profit way too early :(

doodlebug4 - 11 Nov 2014 10:48 - 604 of 832

The important thing is that you banked a profit jimmyb!

It will be interesting to see how this plays out now. Some people may decide to take their profits before the half yearly results tomorrow and others may wait to see what the figures and the trading statement say.

aldwickk - 11 Nov 2014 12:22 - 605 of 832

buy on rumur sell on fact

skinny - 11 Nov 2014 13:33 - 606 of 832

She sounds very Karen Carpenter like! Rumur

cynic - 11 Nov 2014 13:37 - 607 of 832

hadn't realised figures not even out yet
on that basis, as a trade, i'ld favour shorting before the event

doodlebug4 - 11 Nov 2014 13:45 - 608 of 832

cynic - pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease if you didn't even realise the half year results were due tomorrow, not today, then with due respect ------------------!

There are plenty of shares on this bulletin board that I wouldn't buy or think are possible shorting opportunities, but I don't post my negative opinions on the threads.

cynic - 11 Nov 2014 13:51 - 609 of 832

my comment isn't especially negative

it is just a thought on which i may or may not act, based purely on the fact that the shares have advanced significantly in recent weeks and therefore the odds of sp falling on the actual results are pretty short

it's not a reflection of the company per se, but rather a thought for trading ...... a very different thing, and that most certainly has a place here and elsewhere
after all, surely the board is primarily for the exchange of thoughts and ideas

Thanks Chris. As you know as traders/investors we only have control over our own decisions and nothing else. The results and trading statement could be bullish tomorrow and the sp could go down! Either way I will probably cash in some profit over the next few days and I wont be posting much more on this thread for the time being.

cynic - 11 Nov 2014 14:38 - 612 of 832

i would have thought first support in the event of a fall would be 124 where sp hits 200 dma

doodlebug4 - 11 Nov 2014 14:39 - 613 of 832

cynic, of course this board is primarily for the exchange of thoughts and ideas, but at least I try to be objective and honest when I post my thoughts and ideas and I try to do as much research as possible before I post my opinions.

cynic - 11 Nov 2014 14:48 - 614 of 832

my thoughts are also honest as are any trades that i say i have done
you are under no obligation at all to like what i write, let alone follow any idea i might put forward

i'm not sure that thoughts and conclusions can be objective, for fairly obvious reasons

Chris Carson - 11 Nov 2014 14:50 - 615 of 832

Aye, it's easy in hindsight to speculate on what may or may not happen when your on the sidelines :0)

doodlebug4 - 11 Nov 2014 14:58 - 616 of 832

I try to as objective as possible, if I base my judgements on emotion I tend to make bad decisions - which I have done in the past. It's one of the reasons that some people make poor traders/investors.

cynic - 11 Nov 2014 15:08 - 617 of 832

btw, i have opened a very small short at 130.75
if sp recovers to 134 today, i may well sell a few more

Talking of results some figures of guidance on what they have to beat tomorrow.

Last year at this stage.......

Profit/(loss) before tax +
13.8 2013/2012
(1.6)2012/2011
N/M
Profit/(loss) after tax +
13.6 2013/2012
(1.6) 2012/2011
N/M

So were looking to beat about £13.8 million before tax

13.6 million after tax.

I note concensus eps are for 7.06 for year ending 31 st March 2015 a P/E of 18.4

goldfinger - 11 Nov 2014 16:28 - 620 of 832

HSBC go for just over £6.4 million profit in year 2015.

As you can se it pays to be short over the long term rather than the short term.

Patience is required.
